  • If "eventually" means that he will get a win against OSU eight years from now if Urban Meyer has retired, then I think it's possible. In the unfortunate circumstance that he coaches for 20 years, he might get to the conference championship game once or twice.

I don't see it. He's been the HC for this "rivalry" now for 4 years. In year one he gets pasted by 29 points. Years 2 & 3 were much closer, although he still lost. Now in year 4 he gets taken behind the woodshed again. Let's face it, Urban Meyer is light years ahead of Harbaugh when it comes to preparedness and tactics. I don't see him ever beating OSU, at least while Meyer is still at the helm.

      • Congratulations to the resident Buckeye fans in here. Your guys made an epic mockery of the alleged "Number One" defense in the country. Ohio State is just a superior football program to Michigan. I mean it's not even close. Obviously. Hasn't been for 2 decades. As long as Meyer is in Columbus, Michigan will never beat Ohio State. It doesn't matter what coach you bring in. Harbaugh has proven to be no match, you can bring back the ghost of Vince Lombardi, heck you could hire Jesus Christ as head coach. Doesn't matter. And I really don't know why on earth a recruit would ever choose Michigan over Ohio State -- only reason one ever would is because he couldn't get playing time with the Buckeyes and could with UM.

And can we stop with "The Game" stuff? And talking about this as if it's still a great rivalry? It's not a rivalry. Not anymore. It can't be a rivalry when one side treats you as if you're a division 2 school for two decades straight. The University of Michigan football program is the property of Ohio State University, and Urban Meyer should legally adopt Jim Harbaugh as his son since he spanks him every November.

        • As much as I enjoy the despondently morbid post-mortems, one game does not a program make. I found it rather hilarious that MGO was writing about how the OSU program was dangling over the edge of the cliff or hanging by a thread or whatever, and that all M had to do was win on Saturday to send them to oblivion. Or some such thing. As if one loss would destroy the program.

For M fans, it's not just one game. I get that. It's part of a prolonged stretch. For HARBAUGH!!!! it's his 4th game and first without a single excuse. And perhaps it's that last point which is so hard. In 2015, OSU was arguably the best team in the country and, of course, CDJD quit coaching. In 2016, it was tragically down to the wire. In 2017, it was If only we had a QB!!!! This year, though. Man. No hiding.

But, still, it's just one game that went off the rails. You guys desperately need Buchanan here for a measured take to bolster hack's semi-reasonable optimism. If you had slept through this entire season and woke up to find M finished 10-2 with losses at an undefeated ND and 11-1 Ohio State, I think you'd accept it without a predictions of permanent future impotence.

C'mon....easy for someone to say who has enjoyed 7 straight wins and 16 out of the last 18. What if the shoe were on the other foot? I also recall a time not too long ago where OSU fans were losing their minds during the Cooper era where he was 2-10-1 against UM.

              • I lived through the Cooper Era full on. I was always optimistic about the direction of the program. Even in 1998, I thought for sure Ohio State was the best team in the country. And they were. And Coop was 1-8-1 against M going into that year. And I had lived through the unmitigated disasters of 1995 and 1996. The latter was crushing because I really felt, for certain, OSU would win and that game was off the rails from the jump. In 1996, I was cautiously optimistic. But by 1998 I was convinced they'd go 11-0.

Anyway, I don't think I ever accepted it. Ever. He had to go after 1999 and 2000, but even in 2000 I thought OSU would win. I just don't see M as unable to compete with OSU. That's not where they are. It's pretty close.

                • Don't get me wrong, as hard as it is for me to put things into perspective after Saturday, Jim has quite clearly improved the football program after the RR & Hoke debacles -- in 2 of the last 3 years Michigan went to the final week of the regular season with a shot at the playoffs. I mean compared to the Rich & Brady eras just having a shot at the playoffs late in the season is like hitting the lottery compared to where this program was under those two disastrous regimes.

That said, the football program is still clearly and obviously second rate to Ohio State's. Which hey, I guess the silver lining would be that 98% of the programs out there that exist are 2nd rate to a program like Ohio State's. Who is with them currently? Alabama is obviously #1, and then you got I would say Ohio State and Clemson who would be the next in line as far as program prestige/ recent success goes. Oklahoma might have a case to be in that group too perhaps. Who else is on par with Ohio State? Look it's an extremely short list. They have an elite football program of the highest order. So it's not exactly an insult to be clearly behind them in pecking order, lol.

But yeah a Michigan fan can't even say UM in the same sentence as OSU, which once upon a time in a world far far away you could do so.

                  Not anymore.

                  • I'm also like a kid who lived through the Depression and grew up to be frugal. Having lived through Coop, I don't ever take any win over M for granted and appreciated each and every one. You don't know when shit will change and you won't see one again for years.

Clemson is #2. For now. Until they lose their hellacious DL. No one is in the same vicinity as Alabama.

In the B10, yeah, it's OSU. M is now 2nd. From where HARBAUGH!!!! started, that's good. Parity with OSU is tough, but it's within their grasp. I can see the talent level increasing throughout the team. I like a lot of what they're doing. The coaches had an atrocious day on Saturday, but it happens. It doesn't take much for me to point to recent OSU debacles to make that point. Fortunately for OSU, their inexplicably terrible games were against teams I don't care much about (sorry, Cody).

                      • 2-10-1 is a .200 winning percentage excluding the tie. That's better than our winning percentage this century and it's better than Harbaugh's. It's not a lot worse than Harbaugh's overall bowl game + rivalry game record of 3-9, soon to be 3-10 after he gets outcoached again in the bowl game like he did against Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp (LOL).

Zero championships for Harbaugh. Zero appearances in the conference championship game. Zero signature wins. Zero anything of value. He will absolutely never win anything of value. The sooner that we part ways with him the better. At least when OSU was beating RichRod by 35 points nobody was watching it. Now the entire country gets to see what a laughing stock the program is. There is some down side overall to taking a chance on a new guy, although I would argue that there is absolutely no down side when it comes to rivalry games. Harbaugh is as bad as it gets there. He is Urban Meyer's bitch and only a devastating dearth of talent at MSU has allowed him to reach .500 in that series -- Their combined record in the two years that we have beaten them is 10-14.

                        • It's funny, man. Just like any lifelong UM fan I grew up hating you guys, iam. We're all basically taught that from early on of course. Everybody here knows the drill. Same thing for you all when it comes to UM obviously.

But it has been so incredibly one sided for nearly 20 years now that I've become eerily numb to the whole thing. I've actually reached a point of acceptance. The acceptance that Ohio State is just simply superior. I don't even fight it anymore. When the floodgates opened on Saturday...it was weird. I wasn't even that bothered. I turned off the game pretty early in the 4th and I was over it virtually instantly. Went on with my day and barely even thought about it. In the past I would've been crushed. For like a week, too. Lol it's amazing that I've gotten to this point. And it's like I don't even hate you guys anymore or something. These days I have more of a dislike for Michigan State seemingly. With Ohio State it's just like, they're so much more superior what's the point of even being mad at them anymore. Sometimes you just tip your hat and that's all you can do.

                              • Harbaugh mentally checked out?

Jim, nobody really saw this coming, 62 points against your defense. How do you explain the performance today, overall, by your team?

Coach, seemed like they came in with their usual attack plan, doing a loot of slant routes, crossing routes. Describe the preparation you had for your defense for (that)

How difficult do you think it is gonna be going back to the drawing board?

Jim, early, what was the offensive game plan early? Was it control the clock? Run the ball? What was your plan?

Did you feel like your team was ready for everything Ohio State threw at you? Offensively and defensively? It seemed like they caught you off-guard

Jim, prior to Shea going down, what did you think of his performance?

Jim, last year after this game, you said the program needed to get stronger physically. You did a lot of stuff this offseason. What do you need now?

Jim, why don't you think the pass rush was effective today?

How would you compare this performance to the performance a couple years ago, at Ohio State? Just how you were feeling after the game
