When the season began I thought we could lose 4 -5 games, but Wisconsin, MSU, and PSU weren't as good as expected. We got clobbered by Notre Dame, had a close call against Northwestern, and looked pretty vulnerable against Indiana. OSU kept struggling, and Joel Klatt kept telling the country how great Michigan was. Maybe Michigan really wasn't as good as they were being advertised, and expectations for today were higher than they should have been. The team in red today overall looked much more talented than the one in white.I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.

Anyway, it's been a strong season for M with the wins over MSU, PSU, and Wisconsin, along with beating all the other teams we should beat, including Northwestern. We tied for B1G East title. As with all fans, I'd like to win 'em all, but that really wouldn't be much fun either.
Isn't this what we expected until the Purdue game. OSU underperformed for several games in a row, so expectations were high for an M victory. But OSU recovered in time. Nevertheless, it was OSU that underperformed for much of the season, not M. Anyway, OSU is a worthy champion.

touch-the-banner's usual spot on analysis:
That wasn’t close. Las Vegas picked Michigan. Virtually all the experts picked Michigan. I picked Michigan. We were all wrong, and it wasn’t close. That was an extremely disappointing performance in all three phases of the game. I’m sure I won’t cover every disappointment, but I’ll get it started. Hit the jump for the rest of […]Last edited by Rocky Bleier; November 25, 2018, 09:56 AM.I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.

You have several ways to attempt to defend the crossing/mesh routes (they are tough to stop with the Buckeyes playmakers) but Brown attempted none of them. A play that is the staple of the buckeyes offense, Brown wasn't ready for and had no ability to make adjustments to cover for...
Offense played somewhere close to my expectations with Shea in there. Buckeyes offense deserves credit, Haskins is a Heisman candidate and has excellent weapons but Brown did about the worst possible solution to defend them...
Brandon Watson is a guy who asked to do things we knew he couldn't, defend a 4.3 receiver one on one. That's again on Brown.

The lack of pressure was the single biggest surprise for me. I mean totally stunning. And it was even more devastating for M than I anticipated. I know Haskins is really good. And I know OSU has at least 3 damn good WRs. And I knew M would go all Don Brown in coverage for the bulk of the game. But, I never expected Haskins to have all day. I had OSU realistically scoring in the teens. But, with no pressure, that jumps up by 28 points, IMO. Because Haskins can complete them crossing routes all day. And, man, Bush is a fucking badass player and first round draft pick -- but he's not as fast as Paris Campbell. Any defense that has him trailing Campbell in 1v1 is not the right defense. Ever.
Ohio State did some other things with its passing attack -- they hit a nice throwback to Dixon for a TD -- but they've run that play (or some version of it) -- probably once a game for the whole season. And when M did go zone, the hit a couple longer passes where guys did a nice job of sitting down. But, it all starts up front, and that's where I couldn't have been more wrong about a game.
Ohio State didn't run the ball that well until the 2nd half -- starting Campbell's long run. Yeah, with Bush out. M could have continued to keep OSU's running game in check, I think, but the game just went haywire for them in the 2nd half.
I though M's offense did about what I anticipated EXCEPT Ohio State actually avoided a giving up a huge play until the Milton portion of the game. M ran the ball semi-effectively, Patterson made some good throws and OSU got some pressure on Patterson. I thought the offense played the game in the 27-34 range for total points, which was what I expected.
Finally, yesterday was just on of those days for M, IMO. Those two teams could play tomorrow and M may win. But, it did show, IMO, exactly how far M (and OSU) is from Alabama or Clemson. Imagine Don Brown's ultra-aggressive D going up against an OL loaded with 1st rounders, better WRs, a better QB and better RBs. There's just no way that works. And if OSU falls assbackwards into the CFP then OSU is going to get destroyed by Bama.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Watching in a bar it was hard to know how much zone Brown tried. But clearly whatever choice that was was going to be irrelevant if the DL was going to be invisible. That kind of pushes down the agenda any talk about whether Brown's scheme is too gimmicky for big games. It could be that it's time for JH to hand over the offense to an OC, and to put Brown's defense on watch. But maybe it's first time to wonder about the position coaching? Gary's underwhelming career, Solomon's lack of a scaled-up sophmore year, and the ends' ability to do anything other than speedrush. BRING BACK HOKE? (as a DL coach, which is something he's really good at?)
