It's a rivalry ...... as far as the broadcasters are concerned. Watch the ratings for this game and then tell me again it isn't
There is so much pure football history to this game. It gets passed down generation to generation like few others. I'd call Auburn/Alabama a close second.
I don't think I ever lost interest in it even over the last decade + of suck for M football. The Game becomes a part of you. I used to think that as I aged, I'd become less engaged. That hasn't happened and this season reminds me of that.
Has the student body of the two teams become less interested in The Game? I don't think so. Still lots of interest albeit mostly stoked by the media which takes me right back to my first point. Sports in the US, especially college football, engages a large cross section of Americans seeking something potentially positive to identify with in an otherwise dreary life.

BTW, if you aren't listening, I'd recommend IMG network link to the pre-game and in-game calls. The game radio broadcast on the IMG network is usually a few seconds ahead of the FOX TV broadcast audio.

Some interesting scoring stats by quarter against teams with winning records:
1st quarter UM - 7, Opponents - 21. PSU was the only team they managed to score any points on in the first quarter.
2nd quarter UM - 44 to 21 over Opponents
3rd quarter UM - 35-10 Over Opponents
4th quarter UM - 52-13 Over Opponents
Lesson? Don't be too alarmed if our boys get off to a bit of a slow start. Just keep the Bucks in check out of the gate. Go FREAKING BLUE!!!!
