M's 2nd quarter offense leaves something to be desired if M intends to play at an elite level. M is good. No question. But I worry about Harbaugh's game strategy. Seems like he's completely satisfied with playing it safe and sitting on a tenuous lead given a really good M defense he's playing to. That's not going to work v. CFP contenders who have the juice on offense.

You see JH's conservatism on the safe inside run plays with PSU pinching it's LBs into the A gaps or slanting and guessing the POA right. You see it with Patterson's reluctance to make a pass-play. Not sure what he's looking at down field but he tucks it and takes off awfully early - that's worrying too much about an INT if he throws it. I think that's coming from the coaches - maybe it's a good thing for all we know. Not seeing the down-G being used as a constraint to plays going outside zone like we saw v. MSU - thing of beauty. We saw one play like this and it didn't get the big play hoped for. Erased from the play-book becasue of that?

In the first quarter, the O got a rhythm in the run game on its first drive. We didn't see that again. Good adjustment by the PSU DL? Maybe. It could just as easily be Pep not punishing what PSU was doing ...... he did dial up some deep throws but dialed them back when they weren't wide open. Tight windows, Shea can do it. The O also messed up a couple of screens which were good v. the PSU D; one of them was a bad throw that probably would have produced a TD if had been a good one. The other one got blown up by poor OL play.

PSU's D is pressing. Punish it with the RPO over the LBs heads. Use the constraints the inside run game provides and go outside zone or jet sweeps.
