McCaffrey is definitely looking good as the successor to Shea. And those moves Milton put on were eye-catching to say the least. We need QB depth as you can never tell when a starter will be injured.Last edited by Detroit Dan; October 13, 2018, 10:07 PM.

"25" - That was blazing on the scoreboard until about 5 minutes left in the game.
It was Hornibrook's passing yardage up to that point.
Michigan's defense actually had more receiving yards from Hornibrook than Wisky's Offense did.

The allegedly weakest part of the Wisconsin defense was it's back end, esp. one of the CBs (a Fr.) and the S that was out the first half. The strongest? It's LBs in run defense who are very instinctive in filling inside gaps and how they interact with the DL.
IVO this, you'd expect M to avoid inside runs and instead attack the back end with the pass. I did. Instead Harbuagh ruthlessly exploited what the Badgers thought was their strength. Like WM notes: 48 rushes and a run pass ratio pretty close to what Harbaugh seems to like, about 60/40. The adjustments to OL blocking in the 2nd half to facilitate Higdon's big game running IZ and power were spectacular.
Higdon's running counterd by the RO were the plays. Along with Higdon's runs, the RO worked inside and outside with Shea's big 81 yard run in the 1st quarter as an example of the RO run outside. There were five other RO plays that I counted with the QB keeping, including a TD run by McCaffrey to the opposite side that Patterson ran it and with the defense gassed by the continuous pounding they were absorbing. What is sweet about that is that is Wisconsin's MO with Taylor doing the pounding and Harbaugh used it as a club against them.
This play development v. Wisconsin didn't happen by accident. It was set up specifically for this game in the previous games, Maryland in particular. What is so satisfying is that one can see why we had to live through the frustration of watching M run inside into stacked boxes. There was a reason for it and it is explained here.
Like it or hate it, Jim Harbaugh likes to spend the season gradually developing certain concepts to spring surprises on key opponents. This year we have seen Michigan stubbornly continue to run the football from the shotgun and the pistol, frequently using zone blocking. Michigan has periodically used zone read option plays with Shea Patterson; the occasional keep that is wiped out by terrible holding calls aside, Shea has handed off a frustrating amount of the time on these plays.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I'm seeing some criticism of Wisconsin for taking the ball after winning the toss. I didn't read through this thread but did people forget that Wisconsin was missing a starter for the first half because of a targeting call last week?

Their manball was kicking our ass. if anything they should have run the ball 20 more times than they did. We gave up over 7 ypc (sack-adjusted) and even if you take away Wisky's longest run we gave up 6 ypc. The run defense was not good at all but fortunately the Badgers are the best running team on our schedule (by what appears to be a significant margin).

But, yeah, they looked good running between the guards. I don't get why that #37 dude gets carries. Taylor is so much better than him.
It's amazing what having a QB running threat can do for you.Last edited by iam416; October 14, 2018, 08:56 AM.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

If only Dantonio would have one of those against us (prediction: he won't).Last edited by Hannibal; October 14, 2018, 09:02 AM.
