You are getting your sports mixed up, that happens in basketball. It doesn't really happen in football.
And it only really happens in basketball when your name is LeBron James and you've shown you have a better idea how to build a team around you than half of the GMs you've ever worked with.

    • Wait, so Stafford should throw more TDs because the team can never run the ball?

      • End of an Era,

At least we know why Decker was worried about Stafford.

This will be the best outcome for both parties.

        Brand New Detroit Lions

Yeah that didn't make much sense to me either. Kinda need better balanced offense to get more scoring opportunities in the first place. They also have had a few years where the running game did suck but had a good amount of Rushing TD's

If you can't run the ball you'd expect your QB to have more opportunities to throw for TD's.
If you can run the ball, you'd expect your QB to have less - i.e. Cleveland - 20 rushing TD's from non-QB's.

            • If you can’t run the ball, teams are sitting on the pass dropping 8 into coverage. If you can’t run the ball, play action won’t work. If you can’t run the ball, every short yardage play becomes an adventure making it difficult to stay on the field. If you can’t run the ball, that generally means your OL is not very good.

And we just saw what happened in Houston. Knowing what we know of WCF if Stafford pulls a Watson and demands say and doesn't get it he'd just get to be disgruntled on the roster and not be traded like Watson is.

This was just idiotic speculation about Stafford not doing what QB's with superbowl wins don't get to do.

Exactly, You don't need to run a lot if you are a pass first team but you need to be effective when you do or You'll struggle with long conversions all day.

Yeah you are trying to argue logic with Fraquar, the dude is talking up Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer as the way to go to win Super Bowls.

It's funny, Deshaun Watson is notable because his situation is an anomaly, the last blue chip player to do something like this was Carson Palmer. Quarterbacks are the face of the franchise but they aren't personnel guys. They can demand all they want but you can't will the front office to make good decisions.

I don't get why people think that pure desire from a quarterback is going to force a franchise to make a team better. Michael Jordan was one of the greatest competitors of all time, but you don't want him making personnel decisions. It's lazy thinking, if anything Stafford's biggest problem was he was a crutch for 12 seasons, he made it appear to the team that they were better than they were. As we saw in the Patricia era, when he was out the team was the worst team in the league.

                      • Right. I don't even think he's Top end elite. Second tier Franchise QB absolutely though. Its a lot like the purgatory the Pistons have been in being just outside playoffs or one of the last teams in. Then not getting top picks most years to add desperately needed talent to a weak roster outside of 1 or two good players.

I stated that in the pass. It was best for both parties to separate!!! We should be commending the Lions on the hiring on Anthony Lynn. He did wonders with Justin Herbert and will do the same for our next franchise QB...deal with it

The problem with this newbie is he assumes their next qb will be a next franchise quarterback as if they grow on trees. Ask the newbie who was the last franchise quarterback the Lions had before Stafford.

Aaron Rodgers didn't get the message in 2012.
39 TD's, even though he had the worst O-line in the league (51 sacks and no running game - even worse than the Lions that year).
More opportunities to throw, you'd expect a QB to throw more TD's - and the great ones usually do.
I'm not the one who used the word great in regards to Stafford - it's why I take exception.

                              • You’re right, he’s not as good as a guy with a claim to being the best QB of all time was in his prime.

oh, by the way that GB team was 20th in rushing, and 11th overall in defense. So you know, not historically inept like the Lions tend to be most years.
