  • Dak being available to other teams with the cap for him would likely aid in moving up. Either the teams ahead wanting him or less competition to make the move. I think Jerry feels some kinda obligation there though. It'd be really bad press for him but he's shown before he doesn't care about that.

The era you harken back to had FOUR. When a quarter of your season is spent against other bottom-feeders, THAT'S why you saw the variance. Now it's much more dependent on what division happens to be weak any given year. The variability isn't a fraction of what it used to be.

There are 3 components to W/L swings:
            1) Your own teams coaching changes
            2) Your own teams personnel changes
            3) Your schedule

Personally, if I was trying to get from 6-10 to 10-6, I'd rather play Denver than KC and I'd rather play Jacksonville than Tennessee.
Let #1 and #2 make up the other 2 game swing.

            • Whoever trades for Stafford will negotiate an extension and his cap number will be even smaller than the figures Mass is talking about.

Laugh Out Loud about Fraquar bringing up Rodney Peete and Erik Kramer for the 12 win season nearly 30 fucking years ago.

              • Also packaged into this trade will be DWT to the fan forum of whatever team gets Stafford. Those poor bastards are in for a ride.

                  Why?
Look, the Lions in our lifetimes have only posted 1 streak where they put together 3 straight winning seasons.
They did it with what people suggest would be very bad teams at QB - essentially what Chem is suggesting would be 0-16 team.

2 seasons were Peete/Kramer/Ware (yeah, that guy)
                  1 season with Mitchell/Krieg

Build the TEAM, and a team is more than 1 guy. Don't worry about that mythical place called the SB until you figure out how to build a team good enough to win a single fucking Wild Card game. Cross that bridge, then yeah, start thinking about leaving base camp and heading for the summit - because quite frankly the mountain the Lions have been climbing in my lifetime makes Everest look like an ant mound.

Except in the modern scheduling formula, you'll be playing Denver AND KC, Jacksonville AND Tennessee. And if the divisions aren't in your favor, your 4th place teams could be 6-10 San Francisco (which was no pushover in a stacked NFC West) and Cincinnati (which ALSO played in a stacked division). The "weak" schedules in today's NFL are based more on how the divisions shake out rather than last year's results.

The wonderful time you speak of actually had a few pieces at every level of the team. Not enough to win a gauntlet of Washington, Dallas, San Francisco, and the Giants, but they had a "good" team.

They have nothing remotely resembling that right now. For example, a healthy Golladay is probably the 3rd or 4th wideout on that team, rather than the #1 starter.

If you want to tell me trading Stafford is the right move, I wholeheartedly agree. But if you're trying to tell me THIS squad is going to be as good or even better without him, you're out of your damn mind.

I have been told he wasn't really very good.
