  • You’re going to have to pay up for Watson. You have to beat potential offers from teams like MIami/Jets. Our new GM just came from a team that moves 1st rounders. I would assume we get in on the action for a legit franchise QB in Watson.

I don’t value Stafford at all in terms of actual value, that’s why you have to move the 1st rounders with him.

If this Watson talk is real, we have a vet QB and high picks to offer. We should get after this.

Yeah, we know, and that's why you'd get washed in any trade. You're not rational when it comes to Stafford's value.

        • Brad Holmes: Matthew Stafford is great, I have to evaluate entire roster

Lions General Manager Brad Holmes was likely asked his thoughts on quarterback Matthew Stafford when he interviewed with the team this month and he had to expect questions about him during his introductory press conference in Detroit on Tuesday.

Holmes didn’t have to wait long. He faced a question about Stafford’s future with the organization right off the bat.

Holmes didn’t paint himself into any corners in a response that complimented the longtime Lion while stopping short of guaranteeing anything for the year to come.

“Matthew, great player,” Holmes said, via Justin Rose of WXYZ. “You appreciate how intangibles show on film, but it is my job to evaluate the entire roster. I have not had any discussions with Matthew or any player.”

Any evaluation process will include the head coach and the Lions have not made any announcements regarding the expected hire of Saints assistant head coach Dan Campbell at this point. That will likely come in the near future and then the duo will embark on building their first team in Detroit.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Boomer Esiason Shares What He’s Hearing About Matthew Stafford

On Thursday afternoon, the Detroit Lions officially introduced new head coach Dan Campbell – who had some interesting things to say.

One of the biggest questions facing Campbell is what the team will do with star quarterback Matthew Stafford. The new head coach made his feelings about Stafford very clear.

“I’m gonna have to sit down with Brad Holmes, but here’s what I’ll say: Matthew is a stud. He’s one of the toughest QBs you’ll ever see. He’s extremely talented, a team guy, and I know he wants to win. So I’ll leave it at that,” Campbell told reporters.

Unfortunately, a new report suggests Stafford might want to move on from the franchise that drafted him. According to a report from Boomer Esiason, Stafford “wants out.”

“He wants out, from what I hear,” Esiason said this afternoon.

The former No. 1 overall pick still has two more years left on his contract with the Lions. Detroit wouldn’t have to fight to find a trade partner for Stafford, but the team would need to be willing to let him go.

Stafford battled through multiple injuries this season, but he still managed to complete 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,084 yards and 26 touchdowns.

He’s still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and would be an upgrade over most other quarterbacks in the league.

Will Stafford finally play for a new team?

            • Last time I believed a guy named Boomer, I woke up in a phone booth wearing combat boots, a spicy salmon roll, and nothing else.
Where are we going; and what's up with this hand basket?

                • Just rumor spreading from Boomer. Until there is real word it's all just speculation. If he really wants out badly they should move him while his value is high. Even if it's risky you shouldn't keep players that don't want to be here if they are movable.

Haters be careful what you wish for though..They are in a tough spot at seven. Trading him and then "settling" on a possible 3rd, 4th or even 5th choice in QB in the draft could be an unmitigated disaster and major setback. 3 teams ahead of us have a very good chance of interest in a QB. On top of now being seen as a team to trade ahead of for a QB.

Yep. The Lions shouldn't settle for less than they want at QB in the draft. If they do, they're starting off the new regime with a mistake. Trading up or holding off might be necessary. That said, if they truly do like a guy at 7, great

                    • I think my biggest worry would be a poor character guy with no assets to help them. Wilson may not turn out bad at all but he's said to be a big ego guy. That can be fine when things go well but cripple a team when they don't. Think we just saw that with Haskins but Washington was lucky to have Alex Smith around and then maybe hit on Heineke. Without them though they are drafting a QB again quickly.

I certainly feel better about them taking a QB if he's the second off the board after Lawrence. You get to 4th choice territory that means you Have Parsons or Sewell on the Board or 1st or Second pick of the WR Trio. Those are elite athletes to be passing on.

                        • I was thinking Mac Jones to Indy would be a good fit, though they did lose Costanzo to retirement which makes that OL more suspect.

                            • I'm thinking the only way Stafford leaves this team is if he demands it.

                              • Not necessarily. Draft position plays a role. If they were at 1 I'm sure they draft Lawrence. They are actually in a potentially awful spot at 7.
