I've got a feeling Matty wants out. I would guess he's looking for a winner. With that in mind, if the right QB popped up, this year, then take him, if you think you can get one before Matty leaves. If they don't, then they have to go all in to find his replacement the next year.

If our GM is actually cooking something - that would be a start.....

As much as Stafford's haters hate him you are extremely unlikely to find a GM that doesn't think he's a high quality QB.
This team has far too little talent across the board to be using high draft picks on a position of perceived strength when they won't even play. Not to mention only having 5 draft picks and little cap room.

So to me you have 2 options.

          A. Keep Stafford and build to make the team competitive around him. Probably the safer route. Likely drafting someone like one of the big 3 receivers, O-line, LB or D-line RD.1.

          or

          B. Trade Stafford and any other potentially desired pieces not on rookie contracts or newly signed deals. Flowers is probably the only one anyone would want. Draft a QB and use the other picks to build around him.

I just don't see keeping Stafford and drafting a QB as being a wise decision at this point.

Of these two choices I definitely lean towards A. I like having the known commodity at QB. The major deterrent to B is that we just don't have that much talent to firesale to make it truly worth the risk. I don't think you typically see teams going the firesale total rebuild route unless they don't have a QB.

My money is on the GM going with A

          • So I’m down to go all-in on DeShaun Watson. I would give #7 this year, next years #1, and Stafford.

            • The HOU owner saves some face by bringing in a QB, a Texan at that. I think Watson is a total stud. We should make a play for him.

Wow, I would want to make trades with you, because you clearly let emotion cloud rationality. You'd be getting a WORSE QB, putting him in pretty much the exact same situation he left, AND trading away valuable assets that could make your team better. All because you have a grudge with Stafford.

                GOOD JERB!

                • The value in that trade suggestion is way off but Watson is the better and younger player imo. I really like Stafford too as I'm sure I've made obvious. .

My belief still remains the same though that we need more picks not less and a new QB. They need talent at almost every position.

All this is Moot because the likelihood Watson actually hits the market is slim. They seem to know they fucked up and are now catering to him

                  • He also has a no trade clause he would need to waive. Hard to see him doing that for Detroit given our roster unless we are the only offer.

                    • I’d trade Stafford for Watson in a second. I wouldn’t give up all those picks though.

Watson MIGHT be better in time, but he's not better right now. Way too undisciplined and tries too hard to make plays with his feet (which is great if you want to have a short NFL career).

I'd be okay with trading for him, but King's offer would be a TERRIBLE one, and one that the Texans would happily take giggling the entire way. That's a dude who's cutting a deal because he hates Stafford, not because he wants a better team.

                        • You're out of your mind. The dude had 4823 yards, 70 percent completion percentage and 33 TD's to 7 picks on a shit team add on 444 rushing and 3 TD's. How much more disciplined do you want him to be?

Stafford at his best has never been as good as Watson was this year and I think Stafford is a fantastic Quarterback.

                          • Hunh. I guess my eyes deceived me then, because he never impressed me the games I watched. But hey... I've been wrong before.

That said, King's offer is still ridiculous, even if you're getting the better QB out of the deal.

Watson is clearly better than Stafford now. Come on chemic. I’m a fan too but just look at the stats.
