Even if that's the case, if you're a new GM do you pay Stafford that type of money with the lack of success he had with the franchise even though he personally has been great? That's tough. If you are a new GM, do you pay the face of the franchise - who has been the face of the franchise for over a decade and the team hasn't won shit Top 5 QB money. Yes, because in the NFL the average QB's dictate the market. Been that way for a while now - virtually every QB that has done something in this league is having to play catch up to the guys that haven't won shit.

Flacco was at least rewarded for actually accomplishing something. A lot of these guys are getting top dollar that struggle to even get to the playoffs, let alone win 1 game. At some point if you are going to pay a guy such a disgustingly disproportionate salary relative to his teammates - he needs to carry that team to somewhere more than a 1 and done in the playoffs.

Yeah? And now he's pretty much middle of the pack... because that's how NFL contracts work. Initial sticker shock that fades when you discover they're likely to only make 50-60% of it for one reason or another.

Which is also why it's misleading to compare contracts in the NFL with any other league.
