That doesn't work in the NFL very well.
The Lions inability to either find or develop talent has nothing to do with CLE. CLE was where the Lions were in the mid 2000's, and the Lions aren't in all that much better shape apparently when people keep whining about they have no talent to work with - 15 years later. That poor old Stafford just has nothing to work with year after year even though they keep pouring resources into the offense.

Boy. did he ever try to change the goal posts. All he did was confirm the original statement that contradicted the BS by LondonLion that MS had a better team around him then Big Mouth Baker.

      Reading is fundamental!
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

        I agree too.

A systematic, systemic problem with the organization for decades. The team moves to slowly to add and ditch parts that aren't working. Missing on some opportunities and squandering, or pandering others.

        • Patience (in most instances) is not a virtue in the NFL.

A 5 year plan by a GM means where he's going to be spending his retirement.

          • If you want to have a good offense you need to have good players on offense. In Fraquar's world, once you pick Jahvid Best and Titus Young, you have invested enough resources.

This is kind of similar to when Harrington was around, people looked at the drafting of Charles Rogers, Kevin Jones, Roy Williams and Mike Williams as surrounding Harrington with weapons. Nevermind that they weren't very good. If anybody suggested they needed more skill position players, they were disparaged with MOAR WEAPONZ! as if the guys I listed were actual weapons. They weren't. Just like Titus Young, Jahvid Best, Mikel Leshoure, Ameer Abdullah, Ryan Broyles aren't weapons. They aren't in the league or are hanging on. Plus if you look at the last 5 seasons they have drafted 3 true skill position players plus two tight ends in the top 3 rounds. They aren't investing a lot of resources.

I also laugh at this suggestion if Stafford just showed a little more initiative in changing the offense and shown a little more leadership that it would be better. The Lions have had two all time greats retire in the middle of their prime rather than deal with the franchise anymore. I don't think people fully understand how dysfunctional the organization is, they think kicking over a few water coolers and bitching to the media will do the trick. If only it were that easy.

            • You have a point Froot. I was just not happy with him politicking for Cooter's job. Who knows if they kept him because of it, but, it wasn't a good look IMHO.

              • It's s not the kicking stuff and throwing water bottles, it's the roll over attitude that " hey that defense is good and they just made more plays than we did" shit. It worked for the first 4 years but after that it got tiring to fans like me who want a more aggressive attitude.
He wanta to win np doubt, but he's also okay with playong for a team for 20 years that gives him no hope in being a Champion.
That's my issue with the guy.

                • We actually don't know what he did other than a public comment on Cooter. Players normally like their coaches, what he said was not that big of a deal, but its a big deal if you are looking for the QB to make up for the dysfunction all by himself. Strong organizations don't need their QB to publicly shame them into doing something. Everyone worships Aaron Rodgers, does anybody think his conduct with McCarthy detailed in that ESPN article was productive? It said he was telling receivers not to run routes called by the coaches. Ben Roethlisberger is by all accounts a total jerk in the lockerroom to the point where their best players want to leave. These franchises are strong enough where they get by because they put enough talent on the field. For the Lions things are so bad that the fans want Merlin for their QB to make up for the foolishness.

I don't expect my quarterback to know who the great coordinators are to hire.

Stafford's "aloofness" keeps him sane, keeps him from being Lionized. I've seen numerous leaders whether it be coaches or players come into Detroit saying they are going to help change the organization and what happen the last 50 seasons is not relevant. A couple seasons later you can see the 1000 yard stare and you know they are Lionized. Golden Tate was the latest example of this, if only it were that easy.

Your issue with the guy is more that he's on a team that has been woefully thin on talent and you foolishly believe if he was more aggressive that they would magically appear to be more talented. How many perennial pro bowl players or close to that have the Lions had during time here? Calvin Johnson And Suh that's it. They aren't here.

                    • I agree with that part about keeping himself sane.
I personally can say, because I had a a severe breakdown once in my life, that not getting to passionate or Luke warm keeps him sane and grounded. But at the same time if he wants something bad enough, winning for instance, if he had any self respect he would put himself in a better situation to accomplish that.
And as a fan it's frustrating to see the waste of a guy who has the physical talent to accomplish more then just useless stats.

                      • I agree that it's not his fault he has been put in a bad situation. And I have made it too personal for my own good even.
After the 2011 season I was married to him. My mistake.
And like a good wife that didn't materialize I got hurt, no other explanation other then to say I acted like a bitch towards him
My fault. But I still want the divorce to go through and be finalized. But the lawyers want to keep the misery to go on and deatey me little by little. ????

                            • The great Tom Brady crumbled against a blitz against a medicore Giants team to spoil a perfect season. Any QB who gets consistently sacked or pressured makesmistakes. That's why teams overpay for defensive ends. When Big Mouth Baker gets hit and injured, TheLondonLion will relearn this lesson.
