    • Lack of play action was less a factor and more Belichek realized the guy can't play the actual QB position, and if McVay wasn't able to hold his hand, Goff became Barf.

"Average" QBs over the last five years are people like Ryan Fitzpatrick, and yeah... Jamais Winston.

Trust me, Stafford has never been a top tier QB, but I don't think Lions fans really quite understand just what an "average" QB is when they call Stafford mediocre or worse.

A replacement level QB is outright trash.

        • Stafford was bad for significant portions of last year. He had a couple bomb games that was the a 6 win season and a 8-9 win season. When you are making the comparisons between other QBs, try to envision the QB in question playing for this sad sack organization instead of the team that the flavor of the month QB plays for. The most underrated part of Stafford's career is he's been yet to be Lionized. Its amazing really.

Put Mahomes in Detroit, and he looks damn near exactly like Stafford, for example. The two are the exact same QB (at least in the pocket), the difference is that Mahomes has people who can catch his passes.

Fitz isn't the average QB, he's a journeyman backup that has moved all across the league and thrust into starting jobs because the starter was indeed below average. The average QB in this league doesn't move to 8 different teams in his career. Ryan Tannehill is he average QB, and it's wafer thin the difference between Stafford and Tannehill.

              • Not the Stafford and Mahomes comparison again. Mahomes is extremely elusive inside and outside of the pocket buying time for deeper routes to develop. Stafford is a walking sack. Take out the strong arm and the sidearm throws and there are very few similarities.

Mahomes is already many times the player Stafford will ever be.

Mahomes WILL be many times the player, I suspect. But right now, they're basically the same QB. One just has supporting talent. Stafford's best receiver was traded and instantly became #3 on the Eagles' depth chart.

                  • I know the Lions haven't employed an offensive coach as good as Andy Reid is. For all the criticism of Reid and his playoff foibles that dude can put together an offense. Linehan was OK, but that about it. Cooter was better than Lombardi, but that was about it.

                    • Mahomes elusivity would result in many sacks if he waited for long routes to open up with the 2018 Lion receiving corps. That's been the problem with the Lion offense since Calvin Johnson retired, the coaching staff has tried to tamp down the long ball and they've had one deep threat with an OK Marvin Jones and even with him you have to throw him a 50/50 ball because his gimmick is high pointing the ball. You have to players.

                        • You also have to be careful with extrapolating any of these young quarterbacks. A couple may continue to get better, a lot of them will end up with worse careers than Stafford. Injuries catch up to everyone and teams learn how to defend you. If Pat Mahomes continues throwing 50 TDs against 12 INTs, more power to him. But there is a chance that was his career year, just like there is a chance Stafford's career year was 2011.

                          • Yep. Who remembers when Stafford was the next great QB when he dropped nearly 5,000 yards and something like 48 TDs?

                            • Wtf? Mayfield? Really? A whole 7 wins in and you want to jump on that pony? Go ahead bro. The Brown train is right over there --------->
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Lord forbid OCs are brung into the equation. The lazy take will require actual thought.

Cooter was atrocious and no one will ever employ him to be their OC again. He's currently a RBs coach with the Yets.

That's the offensive genius these guys are saying MS couldn't make their game plan work. God take me now! Earth was cool!
