He wants to win too, make no mistake about that. He just doesn't;t have the skills to make the plays to beat good teams.

            • I think you tragically overrate the performance level of the "average" QB.

Stafford still sits in that amalgamation between 6-15 of the "second tier" of QBs, guys that aren't going to be able to just carry a team of replacement level players to a playoff appearance a la Rogers, but with the right talent can win and even win championships.

Umm, 15 is average in a 32 team league, so what you are saying is the average NFL QB starts at #6.

LondonLion claimed Stafford was below average.

                      • Goff is entirely a product of the team around him. Put him in a position where he has to think on his own and actually play the position rather than just be a thrower (like New England, and even Detroit to a lesser extent, did), and he quickly turns into God-awful. I wouldn't say he is "inarguably" better in the slightest.

Rivers is basically an older version of Stafford, a guy who can produce victories in the right situations, but isn't really going to win anything on his own. Really, the only significant difference between them is that San Diego has traditionally had better teams.

Even if I give you the rest, that's still only 6 in that top tier or so. So... you got me? I guess?

Last year he was below average, unless average is Jabustus levels.

The difference between Goff and Stafford is Goff is where Stafford was 8 years ago - a QB who is scratching the surface of his potential. Struggling against a defense he hasn't seen is a learning experience.

CAR was 2 games up - and had a tie-breaker advantage
ATL was 1 game up - and had a tie-breaker advantage

Lions chances were slim at best, and Slim decided he'd had enough and left town after they got trucked by BAL.
THIS is where I differ from some Lions fans. They had shown they were crap that year by then. I was in full tank mode and looking forward to the next season. Losses would galvanize Caldwell's ouster and hopefully Cooter too.

Some fans look at the team with rose colored glasses. Hoping that frog turns into a Prince come week 15. Maybe that's why some people are perpetually frustrated with this team.

I'm not because I chose when I am frustrated. Why spend my time frustrated? Why think they are going to lose before they play a game, THIS SEASON? Why think they are going to do anything meaningful when they show that they are bad, IN SEASON? Why worry about the last 50 years when there's no changing it?

IDK, I take life as is and put it in a realistic perspective.

pANDs If you are looking at National media sites like BSPN and NFLN and let that drive your frustration before the season even starts (because the Lions aren't splashy) understand this, YOU will know the team is good before they do. I'm good with that F em. Just don't expect them to jump on the bandwagon. Until it's painfully obvious
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Goff is a less then average QB in a great system and with a great team. Until now (we will see if things ARE different) MS is a better then average QB who was in a terrible system (Cooter) with a better then average D.

Goff is Flaco from 8 years ago..

Flacco's team thought so much about him that they drafted his replacement and got rid of him in the following off season.
