So are we expecting Stafford to throw the ball less next season?

I'm expecting a top 5-10 defense that gets offenses of the field, and turn it over to a ball control offense with opportunity shots downfield when available.

So if that best scenario happens then these 3 yard or behind the line of scrimmage passes to players like Riddick will be come less needed.

Well they were #10 in 2018 and managed a 6-10 record so they will have to improve on that and be able to consistently run the ball to open things up for the passing game. Easier said then done.

And not get behind in games. I'd like to see the D go to the next level next year and score some points. After the first play of the season I don't think I can remember a pick 6 off the top of my head.

His pass totals the last 2 years are where they need to be, 550-560ish. If he has to throw 600+ times a season that means something is seriously wrong, either on defense or in the running game.

Quality over quantity in the passing game. No more of these 2 yard passes on 3rd and 6 please.

The key will be on first and 2nd down. Keeping third downs to 1-3 yards will be the key. If they can do that then the option of running it will keep the passes open. Defenses won't be able to load up on the pass.

I wonder if we will see more of a vertical style attack under Bevell. Stafford in recent years has seemed miles off the gunslinger of earlier in his career. I'm not sure he's suited to a dink and dunk style offense and would like to see him air it out more. At least it's fun to watch.

It's abundantly clear that Matty Statford isn't going to take the lions to the promised land. The shift to a more "run dominant" style offense makes sense. I'm just not very confident in the OL being up to the task. The problem is if the lions fall behind in games we'll have last years lions.


I hope that the lions FO start looking into grooming Matty Statfords replacement very soon.

After hearing Rod Wood stating that Stafford is a GREAT QB for the 18th time tells me that Martha and Rod think he's just wonderful, the perfect Lion.
He will retire in Detroit and his number will go up in ring of fire, uh honor.

It actually was a good interview and he even sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Basically repeating Quinn and Patricia garbage.
