Have to take them any way you can get them. Particularly for such a lofty milestone, and it only took him ten years. To put it in perspective, Nick Foles has won games against good teams in 5 of the last seven games.

Thought this article was an interesting read given all of the fluff about a Stafford trade recently. No, the Lions shouldn't trade Stafford. Retool the offense this offseason, please.
What would a Matthew Stafford trade actually look like in 2019? 2020?

There's no "retooling" this offense.
This franchise needs to be completely burned to the ground. They need to finally, really, legitimately blow it all up. A complete enema where everyone is fired. Allen Park needs to be completely empty, then maybe they'll have a chance of rebuilding something.

That is not really happening, its not even worth really discussing because of it's improbability. I thought the Quinn hiring was a slow motion version of blowing it up, he took a broom to a lot of the staff. I also don't think its entirely practical to blow up the whole organization. Really if the Fords were still owning the team and they blew it up, the new structure is probably going to be even worse, that's exactly what happened when they hired Millen. He got rid of a ton of people and hired suspect people as their replacements. They are still reeling from that disastrous hire nearly twenty years later. Ron Hughes and Kevin Colbert are still running the Steelers. Note that Colbert left one year before Millen.
I think I'm alone on Stafford Island but if they could trade him for a 1st rounder and a couple mid-round picks I would probably be up for it. I don't see enough talent presently.

They will win even less if the offense looks like it does now.

Stafford isn't getting two 1st Rd picks in a trade at his age. That level of trade material is reserved for two types of players:
1) Guys that are proven elite at their position (Mack) - a difference maker that will make the other guys around him better just by his mere presence.
2) Guys who still have that mythical "upside" - i.e. Cutler was just turning 26 at the time of the trade.
Stafford is neither of those guys. He's Palmer in a nutshell. A veteran QB that a team already built to contend like AZ was might trade for - one that had a championship caliber defense and didn't have the time to keep playing the QB musical chairs till they found the guy they needed.

You're right about one thing though. It's never going to change as long as the Fords own the team.

Looks like the Lions player personnel department consists of 23 employees. Around 7 of them were with the Lions prior to BQ being hired if I counted correctly. Whoever this Lance Newmark person is sounds like the most troubling person in power as he is "entering his 21st year in the Lions player personnel department."
Most importantly, Allison Maki is still CFO. That's a plus.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

That's all the Lions have ever done; blame a handful of people for the team's problems, toss out the scapegoats, rearrange the deck chairs, then proceed as normal. The franchise now is functionally the same as the one under Mayhew and under Millen. Hell, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to find out a ton of the same people are in similar spots.

I have always thought the Lions have been slipping on ice for my lifetime. Everytime we think we have something, they take it away. Or F it up. If they could keep the good parts (and they actually get better - which is also a major concern) and replace the bad parts with good players, we'll be ok. Easier said then done. But, in today's NFL it can happen quickly.
So, IDK if they need a complete enema, they just need to shore up the talent deficiencies and then work on their depth.
Last FA (2018) I thought BQ worked on depth. We later found out that depth wasn't even replacement quality. This year he needs to hit on some real heavy hitters before the draft. If at all possible, OG, TE and LB needs to be the targets since those positions can be signed for a lot less then WR, CB, DE and yes, QB.
I don't think they are that far, but they must get that OC. THAT is priority #1 IMHO.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

It may not be popular here, but I think they need to take a real shot at A. Barr. He's extremely versatile and would be an even bigger star in MP's defense. He would be one our better coverage LBs AND he would be better then any one we have at rushing the passer and run fits. It makes all the sense in the world. So it will probably not happen.
While I'm ruffling feathers, they need to take a swing at Tate in FA too. The match is good for both and they could extend the contract out a little to be team friendly. At the rate he's being exposed in Philly, his value should be coming down too.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. That FA list is pretty bare.
EDIT: And I don't trust them to not fall in love with a shiny weapon in round 1. I want to see a defensive star find his way onto the team.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.
