EVERY aggregate stat Stafford is worse than his career average this year except one - Comp%.
Now when you factor in Stafford is one of the 5 worst QB's in terms of Air Yards per Comp then that tells you all you need to know. That Comp% is being driven by a shit ton of short easy to make throws that aren't accomplishing a whole helluva lot.
You don't look at raw stats to compare a player, you look at the aggregates - since since raw stats are dependent on repetition.
That and you have to extrapolate his 2018 stats from his career stats to get an accurate picture of the comparison you are making.
He's not having a good year, by any stretch of the imagination.

Has Matthew Stafford regressed this season?
The numbers sure say so. He's completed 67 percent of his passes, which is just a hair off his career high, but he's also averaged just 7.0 yards per attempt, which would be his fewest since 2012. That ranks 28th in the league, just behind Andy Dalton and Brock Osweiler, and just ahead of Blake Bortles and Sam Darnold.
He's on pace for just 4,133 yards, which would be his fewest ever in a full season.
All after a season where he ranked among the six best quarterbacks in the league by all major statistical measures.

Could be 3 but I remember at least 2.
Your franchise QB is supposed to win those games for you, not make a critical mistake.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

There are no more excuses for Matthew Stafford and the Lions' $135M investment in his magical arm
sports.yahoo.com
Detroit Lions fans have a unique indignity facing them as December arrives.
The co-leader in touchdown receptions in the NFL is Eric Ebron.
The tight end who was intensely disliked by the diehards in Detroit is a star in IndianapolisAndrew Luck, while in years past there were other options like Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and even Kenny Golladay
?????
It looks like another lost season for Matthew Stafford and the 4-7 Lions. Their next opponent on Sunday: the Rams (Getty Images)
Matthew StaffordChicago Bears team led by Chase Danielpaid $135 million over five yearsPat Mahomes, Deshaun WatsonJared GoffForbes has Stafford ranked as the 10th highest paid athlete in the world, right in front of Kevin DurantKerryon Johnson broke that streak this season against the New England Patriots, who the Lions beat convincingly. But the Lions have aggressively tried to help Stafford in the backfield. They went and got Reggie Bush. They drafted Ameer Abdullah. They picked up LeGarrette Blount. They have completely rebuilt their offensive line. And Ebron was a big part of that effort. Instead of going for Aaron DonaldGlover Quin and Darius SlayRyan Tannehill, Blake Bortles or Jameis Winston. He has been durable. He has been stellar at times. He has been the face of the franchise the Lions desperately needed after the 2008 winless embarrassment. But after several coordinators and coaches, the Lions are still an also-ran. At some point, hard as it may be, the Lions have to ask themselves if $135 million in salary should buy more than a participation trophy.

It's not hard at all to consider.
Andrew Luck is a better QB than Matt Stafford. I don't know too many people, even in Detroit, who pretend otherwise. This isn't some goddamn hard-to-swallow pill the Hater's Club is trying to force down our throats. We know. We've known for years.
But who is that better QB, and how do the Lions attain that fellow? Until someone can actually give us a fucking name, there's no point entertaining a return to the Millen Error, which is what a blind purge of Stafford would effectively accomplish.Last edited by chemiclord; November 27, 2018, 11:31 AM.

What has he done to suggest they shouldn't even be looking?

Lets pump the brakes on Ebron, fans hated him mostly because he ran his mouth endlessly any of those fans would not say Luke Willson was better than Ebron offensively. The Willson replacement was more of a "maybe they see something nobody else does" type of signing.
If you don't think Stafford is it, you have to waive him and start the period tanking for at least a few years.

Chem, the problem I have with the fear defense (i.e. what would life be like without Stafford) is KC was in the EXACT same scenario - with a better team. Three 11-5 seasons out of 4 with Alex Smith at the helm and they traded UP into the 1st round significantly to draft a QB. They didn't trade up to draft a backup, they traded up to draft a better QB.
Lions choose not to do that, fine, but stop with the whole fear mongering of what would life be after Stafford.
Would the Lions really be much worse with Alex Smith at the helm? If not (they wouldn't), then yes, they should go looking for Stafford's replacement.
