There was a railbird at the Hazel Park track who had his son collect losing tickets on the ground to claim them as losses. He would clean up in the big jackpot races, basically there was a jackpot race that you had to bet correctly the superfecta in the 4th and 9th race. He would buy any winning ticket from the first race in hopes to win the second race. It wouldn't hit very often but when it did it would be huge. He would store all the losing tickets his son would scrounge up in boxes in his basement.

My buddy does that with losing lottery scratch tickets, saves them up and then turns them in to offset any lottery winnings he may have.
