In 97 everyone wanted the team named the Red Wings to break their drought. But one of the main things was they wanted to see Steve Yzerman win a Stanley Cup. He had the label playoff choker, he couldn't win. Then he did. 20 years later, the individual players on that team are still revered.
If you don't like players and anything short of a Super Bowl win is unacceptable, the Lions are not the team for you. That's been clear for over 50 years.

Football is about as diametrically opposed to Hockey as it gets.
Yzerman needed help on the other 3 lines - he couldn't spend all game long on the ice. Didn't matter how many points he scored, didn't matter how much he helped defensively - he was on one of 3-4 lines.
A better example is Basketball, where if the team was hell-bent on getting Isiah 40 (or throwing it 700 times with Stafford/Calvin), they were likely going to lose. It was only when they bought in to play a team game that they climbed the top of the ladder - and pretty much changed the landscape of the NBA to a total street ball when they forced the NBA's hand to crack down on defense to promote the Jordan era of points, highlights, and more ESPN.
For the Lions to have success they need to do every phase of the specialist game well. Pass, Run, Pass Defense, Run Defense and Special Teams. Throwing it 700 times just makes you 1 dimensional and easier to defense.Last edited by Fraquar; May 28, 2016, 07:06 PM.

If you don't... you really can't afford to have too many glaring weaknesses.

Under the current NFL rules and rule interpretations, I believe the QB has passed the goaltender as the most critical single position in any sport.
Year after year the QB has become more critical and more protected. To be clear, I am NOT happy about this. I think its bad for football. Particularly at a time when colleges are not producing many NFL ready QBs.

Again if you don't care about players and only care for championships the Lions aren't for you. If you don't like the fans or the players, what is the use of following the team?
Believe me, if the Lions pulled off the impossible and won a Super Bowl every player on the team would be lauded even with the many men.

Also, if you're the QB and you're being told to get the ball to Calvin, isn't that counter team productive not to mention QB counter-productive.Last edited by DanO; May 29, 2016, 12:06 PM.GO LIONS "24" !!

Only in the bitter Lions fan world is Calvin Johnson an "average" wide receiver. The delusions are coming in fast and strong. Take of the Honolulu Blue glasses. They're worse without CJ. Period.
just saying.Forever One!

In football, it's totally different. It's a specialist game, and you have to make the most of the few opportunities you get in a game. Pretty sure that unlike guys like Yzerman and Isiah, Stafford still hasn't really tapped his potential - he needs to up his game, despite his unwillingness to work with a QB guru in the offseason.
