I'm sure the next pitcher up will be able to do what Verlander couldn't. How hard could it possibly be?
I can't think of a single person who WANTED Verlander traded - but the reality is they needed to trade him - for his sake. Even if he was capable of finding that fountain of youth by staying with DET, they were still going to lose 100 games.

non-sequitur much?
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

I wanted Verlander traded as the Tigers weren't going anywhere. I didn't want to get fleeced like we did but that was such a weird year for trades. We had all of these assets and there was no market. In hindsight they should have waited for the offseason but I'm glad he got a ring.F#*K OHIO!!!

Of course I wouldn't cry too much for the Tigers. We fleeced the Marlins for Miggy and got Schrezer from Arizona. Those are HoF players that we were lucky to have.F#*K OHIO!!!

Is it the same with baseball? Like with football; QB sucks, so everything sucks, or outfield sucks with elite QB but it still all sucks.........
Baseball?? Pitchers suck so it all sucks? Or pitchers suck but batsmen are awesome and they get the job done? Or pitchers are great, batsmen are great, but basemen and fielders suck ??
In all sport, Isn’t it just a case of the AC Milan scenario of 1995 ...... with every single one of the positions filled, including subs bench is just absolutely elite fucking fantastic?"...when Hibernian won the Scottish Cup final and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there’s a better football celebration ever in the game.”

I've read a mock draft saying statford to the Panthers for the #4 pick. What kind of drugs cause that type of hallucinations?
The loins will be lucky to get a high second and some cast-offs. Loins fans have statford way over-rated.Detroit Lions: Where futility is a lifestyle choice.

The closest you get is in the NBA. But even that is a team sport and the majority of good players on one team will always trump a team with one great player. All other things being equal.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

In that case, I will never truly know. I'd watch "Knitting with Irma" before the NBA!
But cheers, was just curious after reading stuff about the Tigers and Verlander etc etc."...when Hibernian won the Scottish Cup final and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there’s a better football celebration ever in the game.”

Marko - the situation isn't exactly the same generally but it is similar in this specific case. The Astros were a very good team that was probably going to make the playoffs but was probably needing a #1 pitcher if they were going to win a championship. Contrary to what Fraquar is claiming almost everyone on this forum wanted to trade Verlander to get young players. They got fleeced and it was obvious at the time for anyone sober. Guys like The King relish draft picks and prospects much more than established players.
That's kind of the same way a Stafford trade is framed, a good team that is missing a quarterback can use a Stafford. In this case the Lions are going to give up an established player and get probably a mid round first pick. They need to hit on that pick or the trade was bad.
