  • Yeah perhaps, it's just weird how loyal he is to the franchise. By the end most of the stars on the team are burned out(Herman Moore) fed up(Barry, CJ) or Lionized(take your pick). Stafford keeps on chipping away at the stone like he's John Henry. Anything is possible and maybe they persuade him to get traded to the right team and how it helps the Lions. That is what kind of happened with Verlander trade(to my dismay).

If you listen to talk radio they just think a trade to get anything is feasible, it isn't. He has to want to go somewhere. Even people who want to see him go somewhere else to try and win are a little misguided, everything he has ever said is he wants to here. Which to everyone seems fucking delusional.

    • Oh sure. I'm of the mind he's not going anywhere, for any number of reasons. But I don't think that he couldn't be sold on it.

The Lions didn't sign Chase Daniel and draft Daniel Blough because they were guys that wouldn't challenge Stafford. The Lions acquired these guys because they thought they COULD. It's going to be one hell of an adventure when the Lions FO will actually have to find another starting QB.

              • This "They didn't even draft a QB to challenge Stafford" bullshit is just that, bullshit. You don't draft or sign QBs to "challenge" your franchise QB. Hell, Whether you fucking morons like it or not, Stafford was/is the Lions' franchise QB and has preformed as such. You got a glimpse yesterday of what this team would be without him. You saw it last year when he went down with an injury. To think otherwise is ignorant.

                • That sign a guy to challenge the guy argument is a tried and true way to get phone calls on sports radio. Butch from the cape will be on line 2.

                    • I like how the only choices are the Lord and Savior.... or David Blough. or Chase Daniels. or any one a dozen piss poor quarterbacks signed or drafted not to upset Matt.

No other QB could have done any better with Calvin Johnson, right?

                      • They did sign Chase Daniel in hopes of being able to plug him in if Stafford got hurt during a playoff chase. It looks like a bad signing when you are using him with Marinelli level talent. The money they signed him to in retrospect looked a little extreme but let's remember the gong show backup QB stuff they had last year.

I'm not sure there is a good answer other than when you draft horribly for as long as they have that you rely too much on free agency and free agency is expensive.

Chase Daniels career completion percentage is higher than Matt posted in any single season....

They aren't spending money on Chase Daniels to preserve Stafford's apparently fragile self esteem. They do it because they think he'd be able to do the job. They don't draft the likes of Brad Kaaya or Blough or whoever because they're afraid it'll make Stafford cry. They draft those guys because they think those sort of guys are diamonds in the rough.

Those are the guys that the Lions brass think could be good QBs, man. That's the sorta guy you're gonna be seeing behind center when you get your way and Stafford is gone.

And yeah, a "better" QB probably doesn't get too much more out of the rosters that Stafford has had around him in his career. Swap Rodgers and Stafford (for example) and maybe the Lions win against Dallas in 2014, and maybe they squeak into a couple more playoff appearances. If THAT would be "good enough" for you... well... I guess you have the proper standards to expect of the Lions franchise?
