Exactly and that locker room was coming off a year with a top 10 defense. They won their first superbowls on the backs of those veteran defenders

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Where did I say "this way only", you have be able to draft and develop some players. If you say they can't do it at all, then you will not contend ever. If you are looking for teams that primarily used their own players that they developed you have to look to the Green Bay teams earlier in the decade and the Colts of the last decade. The Colts won the Super Bowl in 2006 with over 90 percent of their own players and lost in the Super Bowl in 2009 with over 90 percent of their own players. When Green Bay won in 2010 they had 84 percent homegrown.

Stafford playing at an extremely high level. Will be top of the NFL when the other teams have their bye.

NE went 5-11 in Belichicks first year.

He inherited a Team with vets that had vets who had already been to a superbowl. Most of his disciples have inherited garbage and let's be honest Detroit may have arguably had more talent than Weis or Crennell or McDaniels v.1 got to inherit but the Lions were certainly not already a legit contender.
Dude, do a bit of research, There were VERY FEW players left on the NE Super Bowl team from the 8-8 team Belichick took over.

Willie Mcginest, Tedy Bruschi, Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy were the veteran defenders and leaders of the defense, not only were they on the 8-8 they were all together on the 96 superbowl team and the 2001 superbowl winning team. High quality veteran leaders.

I'm also not sure what going 5-11 in 2000 has to do with anything as far as their talent level. It was an adjustment year to a new coach.

My whole point was that he inherited high quality veteran leaders who had winning experience. I'm not wrong. Perhaps take a shot at that research thing?

                • You need a ALOT of things to go right just to get to a SB. How Schleprock (Lions) is going to manage that in my lifetime is beyond me. They create ALOT of their own misfortune. Shit, next time a team lines up for a hail Mary, just give them the 7 points and spare us the misery.

                  • That first Patriot SB team did introduce the strategy of churning the middle to lower level free agents. That team also kind of led a charmed life, it wasn't the fully functional machine that it is now.

                      • I don't mind occasionally showing Stafford haters how ridiculously wrong they are but at some point you have to realize you're arguing with people who have their mind set and are looking for reasons to hate. You can find reasons to hate Brady or Manning or Brees if you really want. No one is perfect. You can't win. These are the people who think somehow its Stafford's fault when the defense drops 40.

You'd be hard pressed to find a QB who has survived close to as long as Stafford "putting up stats" with teams focusing on pass rushing and not at all ever worried about a running game.

                          • Right and that's my underlying point. You can be both critical of struggles and supportive of succeses. When people take those successes and immediately look to make excuses as to why they aren't their mind was already made up

                              • The only solace is they aren't alone. Kinda feel for Ohioans, Bungles or Browns? Pick your poison.

I took on the Bengals as a kid as another favorite because I thought they looked cool. Awful life choice.

At least I picked the Saints too and they became good.
