The Lions only won today because Carolina was stupid and choose to not go for the extra point to tie the game.

If that was the case, going for two doesn't make sense. If the converted the two or kicked an extra point - all Detroit needed was a field goal to win in either situation. The choice to go for two only makes sense if you think you can stop Mediocre Matty from getting Detroit into field goal range.

1) Rivera simply rolled the dice because he DID NOT want this game going to OT. Going for 2 ensures that can never happen.
2) You send a statement to your team, ride the momentum into that defensive stop.
My only question about going for 2 there (since you cannot win the game anyway on that play) is it is a Conference game and Conference record is one of the first things they look at when it comes down to playoff tiebreakers. Had that been an AFC opponent I wouldn't have batted an eyelash - let the chips fall where they may and get out of town.
With 2 games against the Saints still to play, I think I'm a little bit conservative there and don't run a play that can lose me the game if it doesn't come off.

Got no earthly idea whose stat line you are looking at but it isn't Stafford's.
EVERY aggregate stat Stafford is worse than his career average this year except one - Comp%.
Now when you factor in Stafford is one of the 5 worst QB's in terms of Air Yards per Comp then that tells you all you need to know. That Comp% is being driven by a shit ton of short easy to make throws that aren't accomplishing a whole helluva lot.
You don't look at raw stats to compare a player, you look at the aggregates - since since raw stats are dependent on repetition.
That and you have to extrapolate his 2018 stats from his career stats to get an accurate picture of the comparison you are making.
He's not having a good year, by any stretch of the imagination.
