The Lions were/are/will be a garbage franchise, with or without Stafford. The list of reasons why the Lions haven't won a playoff game in over 25 years is a long one, and yeah, Stafford's name is on it somewhere. What the "defenders" challenge is the idea that any QB is going to do all that much better with the endless parade of shit the Lions fill their roster with.
Swap Stafford for Rodgers or Brady, and you're looking at a playoff record of 1-4 over the last decade (maybe 2-4 if you REALLY want to stretch reality and think that they had any chance in hell whatsoever of winning the Saints game in 2011, and that QB play was the major reason they didn't). Is that better? Sure. Is it anything worth taking pride in? Not really.
Trade Stafford. Fuck, outright cut him. You're not going to find too many tears staining the ground. But it's not going to improve the team. You could find Bionic Super Jesus, QB out of Divine Quarterback Heaven University, and the end result is that the Lions become the Dallas Cowboys.
Yay?
Swap Brady or Rodgers for Stafford in 2014 and they make it to the SB. That defense was good enough for either of those QB's to bury teams with ruthless abandon.

LOL no. That team wasn't winning the Divisional Round in Green Bay, end of story. That was the same defense that went into GB with everything to play for in Week 17 and the Packers not even bothering to suit up Rodgers, and earned Matt Flynn a starter's contract.

Bullshit, The Punt team gave up a TD and mediocre Matty had a safety on an intentional grounding penalty.
Green Bay then scored on drives where - Detroit kicked off out of bounds giving Green Bay the ball near mid field. Then Mediocre Matty fumbled ball giving Green Bay the ball at Detroit's 42.
2011 was the year Matt Flynn earned the contract. The 2011 team was more Super Bowl ready in my opinion. They looked it until Best went out and the defense came back to earth.

Ah sorry. I mixed up the game that the Lions D gave up 45 to the Packers with the game that the D gave up 30.

Because with Brady or Rodgers they'd have had the division locked up by week 15 and would have been fighting for home field throughout. Lions offense pretty much disappeared for large stretches in games that season.
Sorry, but Brady or Rodgers beat Drew Stanton - that's in the bag. Easy money there.
Sorry, but there is no way on the planet the Bills shut out Brady or Rodgers for the entire 2nd half.
Brady or Rodgers don't play with their food vs Miami and leave it to the final drive of the game. They put them away.
I'd place Brady in a different category. Rodgers has a super bowl win, but a lot of playoff eggs since. He has come up short a lot, no doubt he is better than Stafford but he's had a few teams that were much better than the 2014 Lions that failed. Neither of them are available though.
I'm just saying with Rodgers they don't score 321 points in 2014, they score like 380-400 minimum. There is no way either Brady or Rodgers are going to look at Caldwell, listen to him say "we want to shorten games by not scoring" and say "yes sir, 3 bags full in reply".
