  • I was listening to NFL Radio yesterday and they had a guy come on and talk about the jets and Fitzpatrick. The response from I think it was Matt Tucker was just perfect and applies to everyone who thinks change for change's sake is better than continuing with what you have even if that change is a huge negative.

So the Jets fan states that Fitz isn't all he thinks he is. Isn't a Franchise QB. If he doesn't want to take the current deal. Cut him and Revis, use this year as cap cleaning year and look for that Franchise QB next season and ride out this one with Geno. That as a paying Jets fan (which is kind of annoying when people say that the NFL makes more money off of non-paying fans), he would be fine losing this season to be in a better spot financially and with a chance to get a new QB next season.

Matt was short and simple and basically said okay so if you're the GM and you think this is the best option and you know you are going to lose this season. So next season you either use one of the two QB's (he named them I forgot them) behind Geno next year or you are drafting a new QB at the top of the draft. Chances are they aren't going to be very good. Now you had another bad season and you are fired. How did that help the team?

It was just so perfect and applies here so so so much.

    • I wouldn't sign Fitz beyond 1 year.

He's a 34 year old QB with his 2 best offensive weapons north of 30 as well - that's a bad combination. Coming off a creampuff schedule in 2015, throwing in a tougher schedule with the likes of SEA and AZ in non-conference and it looks like a trap - the kind of traps teams fall into all the time.

They are going to need better QB play than Fitz can give them to win in 2016.

No one was saying tying themselves to Fitz (though I guess most talk is about for about 2 years). But the point being that whatever you saved by not paying Fitz this year and looking to the future only, wouldn't really matter, and the end result is a pink slip.

        • Yup. I believe Chemi and Froot have made this point a few times.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

          • yes but we should still cut Stafford... it seems logical..

                  1) Look at the list of champion QBs over the last twenty years. For all the talk about Peyton Manning and Ben Rothlisberger and Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees, until this last year only two of them have multiple titles to their credit.

Meanwhile, you also have names like Eli Manning, Joe Flacco, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson... you honestly want to tell me that Stafford can't EVER be on that level? You honestly want to say he can't EVER catch the sort of lightning in a bottle that Eli and Flacco caught? You honestly want to say there's no way possible that he can't ride a defense like Russell Wilson or Peyton's Manning's corpse?

                  Really?

Are you absolutely SURE you wanna run with that angle?

                  2) Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that you're right. Stafford probably isn't EVER going to get there. So, let's commit to dropping him.

Then what is your answer? Crickets don't count. Continuing to play the QB lottery isn't acceptable either. Throwing out meandering treatises couched in "I'm not a GM" aren't good enough either.

Give us a fucking name. Oh wait, none of you twats can, because there ISN'T ONE. There's no better option, and you know it, but don't want to look like an imbecile putting your dick on the table for everyone to laugh at.

So guess what? You get to deal with it, like the rest of us who would LOVE a better QB but understand there's no one better available to the Lions, and that cutting off our noses to spite our face is stupid as FUCK.

Man up, and give us a name that we can properly ridicule and mock your stupidity for. Otherwise, shut up forever.

                  • I have an amazing confession to make. I am not a football genius or a draft Guru. I am a lions fan who comes on this board to read posts. For the most part to here the opinions, rants, and community of other lion fans.
I am kind of like your brother in law who stands in the corner and rants about Obama. Disappointed when we thought it might be better. No more or less. Never ask anyone to really take my posts like I actually know anything. I have to rant, or I will cry.

At some point if winning a championship is the only time you will have any happiness with the team then maybe that team is not for you. The chance of the Lions winning a Super Bowl is extremely low.

His attacks crack me up, like we have any impact on the product on the field. Like my opinion that you need to come up with a better alternative to Stafford before getting rid of him is an impediment to their success.
Hello!!!!!!! Where have you been for the last 20 years........I'm not a players guy, I'm not a fan of players, they're just men like you and I (well me anyhow). I'm about the team - I couldn't care less about who is playing on the team. That's been very clear for over 20 years.

                              • That's a strange stance to take really. Detroit sports teams have won 11 championships since 68, when the vast majority of fans talk about the championships they talk about individual players. Individual players working together as a team.

In 97 everyone wanted the team named the Red Wings to break their drought. But one of the main things was they wanted to see Steve Yzerman win a Stanley Cup. He had the label playoff choker, he couldn't win. Then he did. 20 years later, the individual players on that team are still revered.

If you don't like players and anything short of a Super Bowl win is unacceptable, the Lions are not the team for you. That's been clear for over 50 years.
