  • 14 games in and they are 6-8 and that record is should be better. 13 of the 14 games have been close and they have flat out given a few of those games away in the closing moments. A few bullet points.

    - JB Bickerstaff is doing what they thought they were getting with Monty Williams. They are establishing a defensive identity and he has used a decent rotation.
    - Tobias Harris hasn't been great for how much they paid him, but he gives them minutes. Hopefully he rounds into form
    - Tim Hardaway Jr. has played much better as a salary dump than the Joe Harris salary dump from last year.
    - Malik Beasley has been a good addition.
    - Ivey is playing well, his usage last year was infuriating
    - Stewart is in his ideal role as a backup 5. The experiment as a #4 was a worthy one but it was apparent early on it wasn't going to work

    • A step in the right direction after 5 seasons of being the worst organization in the NBA. I hope the young core has a much higher ceiling to grow as they get experience and age. That’s how they can get out of this purgatory area. Time will tell.

Perhaps a win-win for the Cavs and Pistons when it comes to JB Bickerstaff. Cavs ceiling is raised as they are 14-0. Pistons get a coach that bridges the gap from the NBA basement to some relevance.

      • 9-12 so far but 3-0 in NBA Cup play. Cade is back, Ivey is taking the next step and Malik Beasley has been a great addition. Ausar Thompson is back as well. This is the type of season we were hoping they were going to have last year

        • JB has been quite the breath of fresh air. Great to listen to, great to watch coach.

          • Big NBA Cup game tonight for the Pistons, if they beat Milwaukee they will have finished 4-0 in group play and go on to the elimination stages. If they lose they might still be able to get in on point differential. Last time they played Milwaukee Giannis had 59.

            • Down 19 at half...I think they have to come within 5 point to advance iirc.

                • The Pistons beat the NY Knicks tonight, 120-111.

I might have to listen/watch them more often right around February.

This actually gets my attention. Since 2020-21, the Thibodeau Knicks regularly demolished the less disciplined Pistons. 0-14, most by very large margins

                      • Crazy win last night. We blew a 19-point 4th quarter lead and were down 8 in overtime. Then TIMMAY got hot, hitting three 3's in a minute and, despite some shakiness, we held on to win by a point over the Heat.

                        • Cade had 18 assists in his sixth triple double of the season. They did it without Ivey and Harris.

11-16 so far and the big wildcard in their favor is Ausar Thompson is slowly easing back in. He was pretty good last night and you hope he starts to produce like his brother is producing in Houston. If you look at the standings they look to be guaranteed the 10th or 11th spot. They are tied with Brooklyn at 10 and the Nets are going to start trading to tank. Two teams ahead of them are the Bulls and Pacers. I'm not sure the Pistons can finish ahead of them. That leaves the main competition behind them as the Sixers.

So far they have been very competitive, but probably still one year away from a true playoff run. They have the most cap space for the trading deadline and with the new CBA rules any of these higher teams looking to trade are probably going to need the Pistons or the Jazz as a third team to facilitate a trade.
