Sometimes that reason is simply the team has no money. Other times a team lets guys walk because they are going to be rebuilding. Sometimes a guy just wants to go somewhere, maybe a team with a better system fit.

Doesn't have to be anything negative for a team to work with.

I'm going to be in the minority but I hope we keep Grant. I like him. Pistons will be ready to compete this year I think. Grant will be part of that. Grant, Bey, Cunningham can be a great combo.

      • Hells to the yes to Ayton. He’s one if the reasons that team went from a shit stain to where it is now. I know centers are devalued but we can pay him his while we have Cade and the youth movement on their rookie deals.

He’s a fantastic player, sign him up

I can’t see Sacramento taking Ivey. If they draft another guard they’re dumb

          • I'd rather sell high on Grant, Bey plays better when Grant isn't around.

            • I don't think Ayton is worth it myself, he can played off the court in a playoff series. This league again and again pays these type of centers on their second contract and they aren't worth it. Centers in the NBA that get paid big money need to have point center skills. If all they are doing is getting rebounds and a few lost ups a game it isn't worth the money.

              • Is Ayton more of a Andre Drummond clone or closer to a Joel Embiid type of player? Isn't he considered a top 5 center in the league?

                • He is not close to Embiid.

Ayton is more Drummond than Embiid, all the way down to being a mental lightweight who can't be counted on. HARD pass.

                    • He’s def not Embiid but not many are. I didn’t know about him being a mental lightweight tho. If that’s true I’d pass as well but it’s time to spend some money. We have a solid pick for this year and a good young core that won’t need extensions for several years.

We can spend to surround Cade with talent that’s needed but they don’t have to be kept forever. Spending on a 24 year old center is ok now as we don’t have to resign him once the contract expires. It just depends on who else is available.

The only other way id save that money is if the team wanted to make trades taking on unwanted contracts for future draft capital but I think this team is already past that. We have talent, we need to surround that talent with the right pieces

                      • This is why I brought it up:

Again, I don’t think the Suns re-sign Ayton. Some team will offer Ayton the max and the Suns won’t match IMO.

Very risky. This could accelerate the Pistons competitiveness with Cade if it’s a hit. At least in the regular season. If Ayton flames out like several bigs in recent history… the contract would be devastating to deal with.

Yes. And it's not just Bey. He seems to not be in cohesion with the team. For what ever reason, when the ball gets in his hands he just stops the flow and the play stagnates.

He is a good player so I wouldn't want to just throw him away without an equal replacement.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

                            Personal life[edit]

Ivey's mother, Niele Ivey, serves as head women's basketball coach at Notre Dame.[18] She played in the WNBA for five seasons and was an All-American player at Notre Dame. Jaden’s father, Javin Hunter, played for the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. His grandfather, James Hunter, also played in the NFL for the Detroit Lions.[1][19] Ivey has one brother, Jordan Hunter.

                            • I’m not sure if the Mavs will let Jalen Brunson walk in free agency, but he’s now a guy I would definitely go after. Watching most of these Mavs playoff games… really like his game! Brunson has been playing well after he adjusted his game for size in the playoffs. If people like to compare Cunningham and Doncic’s skill set to either other, then Brunson is the ideal guard fit.

Keegan Murray at #5 as a wing that can shoot and then go get your guard in Brunson this free agency. That’s my proposal in this scenario.

Perhaps take a chance on Collin Sexton at a much lower cost if striking out on Brunson.

                              • Yeah. Since his name came up here I've been watching him and dude competes. He is always coming and is fearless. Often times going to the bowl against much bigger opponents. But, he has a good stroke from deep too.

                                I like him.
