  • That Nets team is a mess

    • The Nets play very hard, They certainly aren't playing like a team that should be tanking like the Jazz are.

      • This year's Pistons are league pass darlings.

        • Pistons might be able to get the first ever home playoff victory at LCA the way they’re playing.

          • That's right, their most likely matchup is the Knicks. The Knicks are definitely in the 3rd seed and are the best matchup. Thibs is running starters into the ground and their defensive rating is 20th in the league. The Pistons are 9th in defensive efficiency and 1st since January 1st. The Knicks are still going to be favored but the Pistons shouldn't get swept.

The Pistons are a strange case, traditionally they shouldn't be this good. They pass the eye test and analytically they look like a fringe contender. Teams in the NBA don't make a jump from pure crap to something resembling a contender unless they add one or two Hall of Fame level players Generally you have to take steps each year and that's what's probably going to happen here but it's hard to ignore all of these games where they are clowning teams. I think they have 100 more dunks than any other team

The Pistons last year had talented pieces, but none of the complementary pieces, no cohesion, and were going through the motions along with their coach. I'm not inclined to say they were half-assing it, because that would have probably been an upgrade from the effort they put forward. While the specific number of wins is a surprise, that they took a massive step forward shouldn't be (I recall we both had them in the 30-win range).

              • It’s almost like having vet leaders that can still play and also fit well with your franchise player and other young talent makes a difference. That and a coach that gives a shit and can actually develop that young talent.

                • I always said last season they appeared to be tanking even if they thought they were trying to compete. Any team trying to compete would have known Joe Harris was washed. They would have cut short the Stew at the 4 experiment. Went far too long with Killian Hayes, Wiseman and Livers.

                  • They lost a winnable game last night. Harden went nuclear as the Pistons couldn't figure out how to defend the neverending amount of high ball screens you get with a Harden oriented offense. Went they did guard him well he either hit a tough shot or found Zubac down low or Bogdonavic open in the corner.
