  • Apparently it cost newly acquired Martin & Richardson and a 2nd.

I'll give Langdon full credit -- the whole sequence of deals led to this. It's not a game-changer, but it's definitely a good move.

    • Sometimes Shröeder is good, sometimes he is shit like he was in GS. But he is a true point guard and they needed one in the short term.

Yep, he's the temporary Ivey replacement. They needed the Sasser upgrade if they want to avoid the play-in. They are neck and neck with the now Butler-less Heat.

          • I mean, he's a backup PG, and he's on an expiring deal. It works out for the Pistons at least.

Little interesting that the original deal couldn't have worked out that way... but NBA contracts and balancing them all out is weird.

            • Just heard that Schroder was available because his contract is barely above the minimum to allow a buy-out.

All said and done, Langdon parlayed his cap space into Schroder, Waters III (Probably released) and two 2nds.

Langon looking good so far, big improvement over Weaver for sure.

              • Solves a pressing need for the balance of the season. Good move (in my opinion).

                • Basically just a meh deadline. They didn't harm themselves in unwieldy contracts that extend into the next year. They didn't give up any young players that they are high on. They just got a backup PG which they needed even before the Ivey injury. It looks like the second rounder they did give up was not a theoretically great pick.

But the thing you need to do when you are keeping your powder dry is you have to do something in the summer. I think they will but it doesn't mean they will

                  • I wasn't demanding anything particularly flashy, nor did I expect anything. They MIGHT be able to entice someone in FA, but who knows.

All I asked was that if the Pistons were going to make moves, that the team would improve. They did that, even if marginally. They DID need someone to back up Cade. It might have been a "meh" deadline, but that's a lot better than the "ugh" deadlines of the past.

                    • They will find someone to spend money on in the summer. They need to find a way to keep Beasley who has been a great value. It's boring but their main avenue to get better is keep on getting development from the young guys. Eventually they might be dealing one of those guys to get a bigger fish.

                      • I did notice that both Marvin Bagley and James Wiseman were both traded as contracts today. Pacers are literally paying the Raptors to take Wiseman.

I feel bad for Wiseman. He was actually having a decent start to the season with the Pacers before tearing his Achilles. Always struck me as a really nice kid and a good teammate during his time in Detroit. I do hope he’s able to get his career on track.

                            • I do kinda wonder exactly how the Schroder deal worked itself out; if it was a target Landon had in mind at the start and had worked out the details with the Jazz along side of the "bigger" deal, and that handling it as two separate trades was just the simpler way to balance the ledgers, or if either the Jazz or the Pistons saw a spur of the moment opportunity to make a secondary deal after the fact.

It's of no significance, really... just a curiosity.
