  • Pistons have a 26% winning percentage during the last 4 seasons. 1 season above .500 (or “winning season”) in 15 years. 0 playoff wins in 15 years. Getting back to a level of some relevancy would be a nice start to follow this long dumpster fire journey of Pistons basketball.

Monty Williams, no-brainer hire. Rooting for it to happen.
Then the next step would be to give Williams a shot of success unlike Casey had here. Pressure on the roster construction going forward.

    • 6/$72 for Uncle Monty. Love the fit with the young core.

      • Good news for the hire and hopefully it ends the Pistons infatuation with DeAndre Ayton.

        • Damn, nice.
Monty Williams and Zach Edey news dropping in the last hour… exciting news.

Time to start building this up. I don’t care about Williams’ questions right now. Getting a team over the hump or Xs and Os. The Pistons don’t have a hump to get over! Not in 15 years.

          • Edey must have figured he had one more first round exit in him...

            • The next step is drafting Jerace Walker and we’re back to Pistons DNA.

                • In the NBA Ive always felt it is more about the players than the head coach....have great players, just about any coach will win...have bad players, even the best coach will struggle.... Look at Steve Kerr....He has won 4 NBA titles.....He has also been in the lottery 3 times.....I dont really know in wins & losses how much Monty WIlliams matters...The players have to play and they have to find better players....Im guessing the Pistons will sign a decent sized free agent contract and try to get him more talent to work with.

Man I hope not. That kid is a more athletic I Stewart with shooting limitations. I’d take Cam Whitmore. I wish he was a bit taller but he can shoot and is explosive at the rim.

                    • Good coaches matter in the NBA. Kerr is a great coach. One of the great sliding door moments in sports is that SVG turned down GS in favor of Detroit. The whole NBA is different if that doesn't happen. What Kerr did in changing their offense to something that hadn't been done before changed offenses in the NBA. Nobody ran motion like that. It's something SVG wouldn't have implemented.

Most NBA coaches are interchangeable, but the top coaches make a difference. If you don't think coaches can make a difference, check out the Miami Heat. NBA coaches get better at the next stop. It's why hiring Ollie or Collins with this trainwreck of an organization was a disaster waiting to happen. Teenage players with a greenhorn coach has no chance of working. They needed this hire because they have been tanking for far too long and the losing culture has infected the whole franchise. Even when it appeared they were playng hard they looked clueless.

                      • Reminder - tonight is game 1 of the Finals, but don't expect either the Celtics or Lakers to be playing.

To expand on that, coaching matters more in the NBA than many other leagues for the same kind of reason that one exceptionally talented player has; because there are significantly fewer moving parts on the court and on the bench, as a result each individual contribution matters more. That said, I think it's still true that good coaching doesn't win games more than bad coaching can lose them. Good coaching decisions still don't matter if the players don't have the talent to execute, but bad coaching decisions still can fuck over a team even with a loaded roster.

                          • Charles Barkley said after game 7 of Heat Celtic series that coaching matters.
Celtics didn’t have a plan and just chucked up 3’s. No pun intended lol
He said coaching in NBA is not for the great players but is critical for the average players.

                            • That was a good exchange between Chuck and Shaq.

There were things in the series that Spoelstra did to the Celtics that was the difference. The opposing coach had no experience and was exposed. Most of the time those things are invisible to the eye of the regular fan. But some of the things they did was they were zone heavy and that screwed up the Celtics. In game 7 the Heat changed up their PnR defense to heavy switching and it screwed up the Celtics.

A lot of this stuff is developed over the season.and good coaches keep it in the back pocket. For the Williams hire, they aren't close to being worried about that, 30 wins next year will be a success.

                              • Larry Brown screwed the pooch with his legacy in Detroit but man was he fantastic when he had his head screwed on. His game plans and in game adjustments were crucial for those teams
