  • The Pistons could not guard him that series. They pretty much used 5 different guys on him to deploy fouls. They really couldn't guard him the next year against Miami.

Kobe was an awesome player and had a legendary work ethic, he had a better work ethic than Shaq but Shaq drove that bus. He drove the bus for 4 title teams, not many can claim that. As for being the greatest of all time, that is overrated. Who cares. It deserves to be in the bamned word list along with generational and transformational talent, off ball line backer, elite, making plays off structure, etc...

    • Shaquille O’Neal admits he never worked hard in practice, but there’s a good reason for it.

      • Does that link point us to a highlight video of Tua just winning?

        • Okay, Shaq admits he didn't exactly work hard in practice.

          And...?

What would more practice have done for his game? What could it have given him that he didn't already have? Free Throw shooting maybe?

A mid-range game? What for? There was literally no one that could shut him down on the inside. He already had enough post moves to have success against anyone. The best anyone could hope for was to give as good as they got. And against those literally two people, adding a jump shot really wouldn't have been a particularly higher percentage play than trying to slam it on their heads.

          • I’m always surprised at how much people minimize Shaq’s greatness. I heard Chuck Daly say it’s hard to imagine anyone else being named MVP when Shaq is in the league.

I always thought Shaq was star “A” of that team. Not to say Kobe wasn’t great, but Shaq had to be the primary concern for the Lakers opponents.

            • Who cares if he worked hard in practice? I'm just saying that a guy like him should have become the GOAT. He didn't. Yeah, he was great ... but he should've become the GOAT ... and the only thing I can figure that made him fall short of that was that he didn't have the MJ/ Isiah/Bird drive in him.

Seriously, he should've been getting 40 points, 20 boards, and 5 blocks every night for a decade

              • Meanwhile Kobe continued to play at a high level right until the end of his career. Kobe was twice the player Shaq was.

I would never want Kobe on my team. An extremely selfish player. I remember when the Lakers were playing Phoenix in the playoffs. Kobe pouted and wouldn't shoot in the second half of a critical game, because people were saying he was a ball hog. That is not being a winner. That is being mentally weak.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

Shaq was the bus driver on 4 championship winning teams, Kobe wasn't.

Start fucking winning.
I say it all the time. There's a difference between stacking talent and building a team. Weaver has gotten some talent. They're just the team of mis-fitting parts. He needs a team guru

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Ho Grant on line one... MJ was every bit as infantile as Kobe. WTF do people think he got it from? The difference being Jordan did it first and is promoted as a God and Kobe is viewed as being selfish because he didn't have a Pippen to balance things for him. F them both

And, oh yeah, Kareem was and is the best. Ever

                          Agreed besides the Kareem bit.

                          • Kareem was awesome and he suffers in perception because the NBA was barely televised when he was in his true prime. Just fucking awesome, he was great at the end of his career but nowhere near the prime. In some ways, he is like Babe Ruth where you only see the newsreel of when he was a rotund at the end of his career. Just look at his stats in the 70s and it is comical how amazing he was. 6 MVPs. Just check out his 75-76 season, he averaged 27/17/5 with 4 blocks a game.

Now this is rubbish. I think Shaq was better than Kobe. Kobe was very overrated. Great, yeah, but just a poor man's MJ. Sure was nice that the Lakers stacked insane talent around him at 2 different stages of his career

Yeah.. Shaq had to suffer with the likes of D Wade. What a sorry roster that must have been
