  • Bailey is fine. A rotation big you clearly don’t overpay. He’s not much more than that.

PISTONS BROADCASTER GEORGE BLAHA TO MISS REMAINDER OF NBA SEASON DUE TO MEDICAL PROCEDURE | NBA.com

Pistons announce broadcaster George Blaha to miss remainder of NBA season - mlive.com

      By Lauren Williams lwilliams@mlive.com

DETROIT -- Broadcasts for the remainder of the NBA season will be without sound a little different. The Detroit Pistons announced that play-by-play announcer George Blaha will miss the rest of the 2021-22 NBA season due to a heart bypass procedure.

The surgery will take place on Tuesday and Blaha is resting based on the advice of his medical team. Doctors diagnosed the need for the procedure during a routine check-up completed earlier this week and anticipate a full recovery. The Pistons will provide an update his status later this week.

“I am disappointed to miss the remainder of the season, but my health is the number one priority right now and I have a great team of doctors guiding my short-term and long-term health,” Blaha said in a statement released by the Pistons. “I’m grateful that they caught my issue early and they expect a full recovery. I look forward to getting back to full speed with rest and rehabilitation during the offseason and returning next year for my 47th season calling games for the Pistons.”

Blaha has been broadcasting Pistons games since 1976 and has called more than 3,200 regular-season games and over 260 playoff games. He’s been behind the microphone for the team’s five Eastern Conference Championships, five NBA Finals appearances and all three NBA Championships (’89, ‘90 and ‘04).

Bally Sports Detroit reporter, Johnny Kane, will provide play-by-play along with Greg Kelser for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Kane will likely fill-in for the remainder of the season.

      • Hope George gets well soon.

Cade has been pretty impressive the last several games. Can’t wait to see who they get in the draft to team up with him.

        • I wonder if George will be able to call Spartan football. Get well George!

The Pistons have been a much better team since Grant came back and been able to play Bagley. The back court has been a mash unit lately and it has cost them. If you are competitive and lose at the end it helps you out lottery wise. We haven't seen a player like Cunningham since Grant Hill.

          • The Grant Hill comparisons are pretty on point. He makes things look routine and effortless. I’m excited to see who they draft this year as his running mate.

If they hit on the next prospect it could be a really exciting time to be a Pistons fan and they have a decent amount of cap space

Naw. We've seen this many times from George Gervin to Tayshaun Prince. Just because your frame looks frail does not mean you're weak or more susceptible to injury. In fact, the too twitched up guy (i.e. Zion - Like I said when he was in college) is the type that worries me more. Being thinner is more flexible too.

I was giving you an example. But carry on.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

You know I am Mr. Tank #1, but, I think they are at a point where they need to be learning to win. Yes, I would like a better pick, but having that formula right now will serve them better going forward. With the NBA's stupid lottery system you could lose all those games and lose out on the top pick(s) too.

                Take the win

Ive got no problem with Cade acting like a baller. He’s a good kid but we also want him to demand things from the refs and other players. That’s what the greats do, so fuck it

He can play center defensively for this team, they were playing Trey Lyles as their center. Nothing was worse than that, Lyles made Javale McGee looke like Shaq when Phoenix played Detroit.

This team needs to find some defensive players, they cannot stop anyone.
Yeah I don't know where that came from. He's a better shot blocker then fake Ben and can actually finish around the rim without throwing a hope shot under the rim. This helps Cade and the others immensely. When fake Ben and the big Leprechaun are on the floor there's no one to throw that easy rim rocker to.

He's a dude that has to be accounted for or else. I really like Bags.

Johnny Kane is irritating. He's terrible. It's like he tries to be cool. On the broadcast he sounds like a Gus wanna be. There's only 1 Gus Johnson.

                    • Looks like the Pistons could catch OKC and drop to 4th in lottery odds. 2 games back with 14 remaining games. Going to be close with how well the Pistons have been playing! Doubt the Pistons drop to 5th.

How nice was this play by possible future Piston Jaden Ivey?:

They summed up the best and worst of Ivey in one play.
Elite burst. Can make shots from crazy angles. Falling to the ground and being reckless with his body… it happens WAY too often to Ivey. If Ivey can clean up that aspect of his play style, it would make me feel more comfortable about drafting him high.
Keegan Murray impressed me in the B10 tourney BTW.

Yeah, I watched that game and that was a NBA play right there. He has the bones and would be a good fit next to Cade.

                          + the Pistons lose. 😍

The lottery can still help or hurt us but I hope they keep piling on the loses. This is the last year to assemble high end talent as Cade will have this team on his back and in the playoffs from here out.

                              • These injuries are ensuring the losses. They have been very competitive in these games but they run out of gas by the 4th.
