  • Ya. I would do SGA and #3. You’re getting an elite prospect. Those guys at #6 just don’t excite me at all. Scottie Barnes/Bouknight/Fast Feet Franz/Kuminga?

    No thx.

Same here. Rumor is that OKC is trying to move from 6 up a couple of spots (supposedly they’re talking to Toronto), but I personally don’t believe that Weaver would entertain any less than #3 in any scenario.

        1. The Pistons wanted to make a deal
        2. A team wanted to make a deal with the Pistons

It doesn't have to be waited on. In fact, if I wanted that pick I would do it now to prevent someone from out bidding me. I wouldn't play games and bid against myself.

          1. Cade
          2A. Todd
          2B. Livers
          2C. Traded for Jarrett Culver
          UDFA #1. Chaundee Brown

          • I love Beilein and what he did for the Michigan program but he needs to be in the college game. Trying to teach millionaires the technique for a bounce pass and proper form didn't work out so well in Cleveland.

            • I think this is the best spot in the NBA for Beilein. The NBA is full of assistants who work in skills for the players behind the scenes. Beilein went to a bad situation with his first head job, he got paid and this job he can do what he loves.

              • SGA's upcoming extension wouldn't be a hindrance to me. OKC would have to sweeten the pot a decent amount. But I think SGA is going to be worth the money and I'm leery of what the Pistons will be spending money on in free agency in two years.

The only thing that I don't like about SGA is that he has one more year on his Rookie contract before he hits restricted Free Agency. Meanwhile, whoever Detroit picks #1 overall is locked into a 4 year Rookie contract, which helps you out in figuring what you can spend on Free Agents.

Unless OKC really sweetens the pot, with some additional 1st round picks (at least one of anything in the top 3!) that are unprotected, then no dice.

                  • I would say the rookie contract is not as important as it is in the NFL. After next season they should have money to spend, but they have to spend it to 90 percent of the cap. With the Pistons anytime they have money to spend they get lemons. They have only been successful with MLE type free agent contracts.

. Basically the only way I would be concerned with giving 30 million a year you SGA is if you are confident you can get someone better than SGA in free agency over the next couple years and I'm confident they cannot.

I have more faith in Troy Weaver than I do with Joe Dumars.

Weaver doesn't strike me as the type to sign a Ben Gordon or Charlie Villanueva type of bust Free Agent players.

I just looked it up: on back to back days on July 8 and 9th, 2009, the Detroit Pistons signed Ben Gordon first, then Charlie Villanueva.

Joe D could've saved that money and spent it on you and me.

I know I can't play a lick of basketball, but I'd like to earn the money that those two stiffs did earning for us back then.

And, I almost forgot about the guy that we just got done paying a year or two ago: Josh Smith. Another bad Dumars signing. Ugh.

I think those guys were signed to contracts larger then the MLE so yeah, they haven't been so good lately.

                          • The Pistons biggest problem is their only true guy is Grant and he is just a #2/3 type guy. They need that #1 guy. No other path I can see then drafting Cunningham. You have to have at least one #1 type guy to be a threat to do any thing significant. Getting a bunch of guys that are good won't do much for their chances.

                            • It isn't about trusting Joe Dumars or Troy Weaver, Joe Dumars built a great team. He was a great general manager, the problem is trying to navigate free agency. Basically you have to spend to 90 percent of the cap and free agency is limited. That means if none of the top free agents want to come to Detroit, you still have to pay for somebody.

When Joe D signed Charlie V and Ben Gordon, it's not like he had all of these different options but he chose those guys. Basically, those were the top available free agents in that year and the Pistons had a lot of salary cap room.

In the last 10 years free agency has changed a lot and it's basically run by Rich Paul and a few other agents. If you are telling me that he has the inside scoop on some Clutch free agents then I will change my tune. But I am positively bearish on the ability of the Pistons to sign a free agent better than SGA. Given that, I don't actually care that he is up for an extension. Still as it is, they would need to sweeten the offer and I doubt they would can or care to. If they can find a way to 3 and Mobley is still there, I would go for that and SGA.
