Letting Blake Griffin go was the best thingfor both sides, he gave up a considerable chumk of change to get out. He was also playing a different role in Brooklyn, a super sub power forward. When he was in Detroit he was the primary ball handler. He led the league in charges taken even when he was a Piston.
It's a lot easier to dunk when the opposition has to worry about three hall of Fame players. Bruce Brown looked like an All Star in the first half of the season.

They better stick within the first 3 picks if they decide to trade down
The Detroit Pistons may have won the NBA Draft Lottery, but that doesn't mean that they are a lock to stay at No. 1 overall and take top prospect Cade Cunningham. According to ESPN's Jonathan Givony, Cunningham is not a lock to go No. 1, and while all talks are still in the early stages, the Pistons are exploring the possibility of trading out of the No. 1 overall slot. According to Givony, Houston, Cleveland, Oklahoma City and New Orleans are all interested in potentially moving up to No. 1 overall.
The Rockets and Cavaliers are obvious candidates if they are dead set on a specific prospect. Houston has the No. 2 overall pick and Cleveland has the No. 3 overall pick, and both teams have plenty they could theoretically add to an offer. Houston gained control of all of Brooklyn's first-round picks from now until 2027 in the James Harden trade and picked up two extra first-rounders for Robert Covington. Cleveland isn't quite as pick rich, but the Cavaliers have been in the lottery for several years now. That has allowed them to accumulate a considerable amount of young talent. If Detroit is interested in Collin Sexton, Darius Garland or Isaac Okoro, Cleveland could make a strong offer.
The Thunder and Pelicans aren't quite as high up in the draft. Oklahoma City has the No. 6 pick in addition to Nos. 16 and 18, and the Pelicans are sitting even further down at No. 10 overall. But few teams in basketball are better situated to make an aggressive trade than the Thunder and Pelicans because of how methodically both teams have gathered draft capital. The Thunder have 18 first-round picks over the next seven years thanks largely to trades involving Paul George and Russell Westbrook. The Pelicans aren't far behind after dealing Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday. Both teams have young talent to include as well. If the Pistons aren't interested in picks-based packages, perhaps something around Brandon Ingram or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander might entice them.
The Pistons are in control of the draft from the No. 1 spot. They aren't going to move down for anything less than fair value. But with reports indicating that Cunningham isn't as firmly atop most boards as previously thought, Detroit might be able to move down a few slots and still land the prospect that it wants. In doing so, the Pistons could give themselves significantly more assets to dangle in future moves years down the line.F#*K OHIO!!!

Stupid AF
We will soon see if Weaver knows when to stand pat and not take the cheese. The NBA, although it is a team game, is won by having the best individual(s). Not a whole lot of good players like the NFL. They'd be fools to trade out for any reason. With the terrible lottery, you may not have another shot at Cades level of talent for a decade. Hard pass on all that.
The other thing, because people don't think of the long term ramifications; at some point Cade is going to have to pick them too. He has said he was only going to workout for the Pistons but the Pistons are looking at other people. Unless they can get a deal for someone else (on the team to trade up from the second) it makes no sense to me. (Like the 49ers feigned love for Mac Jones). When he can leave, don't think he won't remember this.Last edited by Futureshock; July 8, 2021, 07:17 AM.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. Ok, so talking about the possibility of the Pistons trading from #1 to #2 or #3.
The last two times something comparable happened:
- Fultz for Tatum. Celtics traded down from #1 to #3. 76ers drafted Fultz. Celtics drafted Tatum. Celtics received an extra 1st that turned into Romeo Langford.
- Doncic for Young. Hawks traded down from #3 to #5. Mavs drafted Doncic. Hawks drafted Young. Hawks received an extra 1st that turned into Cam Reddish.
Think I mentioned before that this is only appealing if the Pistons are blown away by an offer AND if they are in love with Mobley/ Green.
Celtics and Hawks nailed the trade down. Doesn't mean the Pistons would hit on it ... you have to take a guy that you are absolutely in love with. If that's Cade, do the easy thing. If the Pistons have strong feelings towards Mobley or Green ... and can get a few future 1sts... I wouldn't be mad about a trade to #2 or #3.
Call me crazy, but I would rather have Young + Reddish over just Doncic heading into NEXT season.

The only way I'm trading it is if I'm still getting the guy I have rated as #1. I'm not worried about extra assets. I don't buy Cody Russell's Luka-Trae/Reddish argument. It's only about Luka and Trae, you can find guys like Reddish every year in free agency. Until this weird playoffs it's been generally received that Dallas won that trade because Luka is awesome, but Trae's performance over the playoffs has changed the equation. But the equation is always Trae versus Luka.
If you really, really like Mobley over Cunningham and you find a way to get an extra high draft pick than go for it, but unless the extra high draft pick is a perennial all star, your trade will be graded Cunningham v Mobley.

NBA = Quality>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Quantity
I've watched 8 full games of Cade and I'm sold. Mobley is the only guy close to him. Jalen's shot is erratic at best. Against better defenders he's going to have to be a slasher. And his defense isn't good either.

There was one play last night where PHO had the ball and did a great job of moving the ball around to the open man and eventually made the shot. Conversely, the Bucks were rotating all over the place and managed to make the eventual shot a contested one. It was poetry in motion and heckuva good play by both teams.Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice.
