That game was not a sellout so it wasn't televised. I remember listening on the radio thinking the Lions had dodged a bullet the play before the TD.

oh gawd, I'll never forget that play. I just remember seeing Favre running around and then heaving it. The second he let it go I went, "Oh no."
Now every time I see an opposing QB winding up for a long pass, that same feeling floods my entire body. It's so flat you can watch your dog run away for three days.

4-0 and you can't win the division. 1981 was worse for me because of the late collapse with Lawrence Taylor running back the interception to win thanksgiving and losing the last week to Tampa bay after being 7-0 at home losing the playoff bid, etc........AKA Dave Lubin

They were debating "Same old Lions" on the radio today. I think ultimately, it comes down to knowing that the end result is going to wind up with fans being disappointed. If they lose tonight, they no longer control their destiny. They could win the next two games and lose to Minnesota and end up out of the playoffs. They could win out, host a playoff game and lose that playoff game. They could win the home playoff game and then go on the road and get slaughtered.
I think the only way the " same old Lions" tag would go away is if they made it to the NFC championship game or to be very competitive in the 2nd round of the playoffs on the road.

This is why we assholes don't believe...
Once again the Lions get no help from Cleveland.
We've seen this shit before.
This is what happened in 1980 (Billy Sims' first year). The Lions had split with the Vikings that year, but the Vikes had them beat by conference record tie breaker. The Lions needed to win in week 15 and 16 and needed the Vikes to Lose both games. We all thought that this was a possibility because the Vikings played a very good Cleveland in week 15 and then finished in Houston. Both Houston finished 11-5 that year.
Don't judge. We were young (and cute ;))
The Vikes got the ball on their own twenty with 17 seconds left in the game. They ran a hook and lateral (Yep. A fucking hook and lateral) on the first play and got the ball to Cleveland's 46 with 5 seconds left. Tommy Kramer heaved up a Hail Mary that Ahmad Rashad caught to win the NFC North and knock the Lions out of the playoffs.
The more shit changes, the more it stays the same.

Was that the year where Wayno fired Henning midseason and totally changed the offense? I think he brought in Tom Moore and they went on a tear.
That loss sucked, but that was a good team and they lost to a good team. There were some terribly bad mistakes that will always stick with you but at the time it appeared that the future was bright. It never really did get better.
