I have read each post. It really means a lot to not only me, but my wife as well, that friends like you keeping me in thoughts and prayers. Thank you.
No effects expected until tomorrow. Just feel tired.

Kay, weed and gelato sounds good right now. No medical marijuana in Illinois yet. I haven't gotten high in 34 years. About time to get back up on that bike.

              • Ah, too bad - when my mom first started chemo it didn't bother her too much, except it left a terrible aftertaste that gelato and sorbet seemed to help. Maybe that will have to do until IL passes medical marijuana. ;-)

                    • Very happy to hear the Chemo has started, Desert Lion....., and I hope the side effects tomorrow are not too unbearable. You were part of a conversation tonight at my best man, Big Marko's house. His neighbour across the street from him starts her chemo for a different type of cancer tomorrow. Stay strong and get well.

                      • Chemo affects everyone differently. I couldn't smell anything ( that's already trouble), and every food tasted the same. I could eat green beans and ice cream off the same plate. Another thing is you just get stupid, Chemo Brain they call it. For me it was with my music. Couldn't play guitar or remember lyrics to a song. I started growing out my hair 'cause I was sure it was all going to fall out, but mostly all I did was lose my eyebrows.

My best to you, Desert, and to your son Coop.

                            • I remember my first son being born like it was yesterday.

It was before fathers were allowed to witness births and I was told to wait in the fathers waiting room until called. I impatiently watched a Tarzan movie starring Johnny Weismiller while waiting.

The nurse came to get me and escorted me to a clear incubating cube where the baby was lying on his side much like in Izzys picture. His big brown eyes were wide open and he seemed to be staring into space.

I got down on my knees to get to his eye level and stood there smiling at him and making faces to him for about half an hour. It was a wonderful bonding moment. The nurse came over to me and asked me if I wanted to see my wife and I asked if we were allowed to bring the baby in too. She told me it was highly unusual but she could see no reason why not.

I wheeled the baby following the nurse to the room, turned the baby so he was looking at his mom and gave my wife a big kiss and thanked her for such a beautiful son.

It was the first she was allowed to see him and she broke into tears. Against the instructions from the nurse, as soon as she left the room, I took the baby out of the incubator and held him. He stared at me the entire time and we have a bond that still exists that only he and I can explain or relate to.

                              Wonderful memories!!!!!

Since then, I was allowed to witness my other 4 children being born and am lucky to be the first one to be able to hold and cuddle them while showing them off to their mother.

........all moments that will go with me to my grave as some of the happiest moments of my life.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
