I've heard they are very independent. What's the good and bad with them? Do they get ear problems?

Oh the hounds are stubborn, to be sure. Lazy and grumpy, but how could you not love those faces? The thing is about hounds is that you have to keep them under lock and key, because they will put their nose to the ground and when they look up for the first time they can be miles from home. We have lost both of them on a couple of occasions because of carelessness of workers that have come to work on the home. Olivia even got hit by a car because of that, luckily she was ok. So we have a huge yard for them to sniff around in, and take them to dog parks etc. to let them run.

The hounds are also great with kids, they seem to put up with all punishments. Kids have tried to ride them, pull on their tails and ears, and all sorts of other crazy things, and they just sit there with this, "Dear God, what did I ever do to deserve this?" look on their faces, but not once have they nipped at a child. Great dog for kids.

You have to get out in front of their stubbornness early though, let them know that you are the alpha, or they will take over your house, and you dont want that.

I have never had a problem with their ears before, but I have them cleaned about once a month, so that has probably helped in that regard.

I guess everyone knows what I look like, the only hippie here (?) ill post it again. This pic is not that old just from my lousy camera, with my aunt. Then my sis in on vacation in Italy from this year, my son and gf who I never talk about b/c there is never any drama and is a great kid very busy who is going to be 21 and works/school also lives in Ann Arbor. Throw in a pic of my xwife who just sent me a recent pic (shes back up in the UP).
