Montgomery has been more than "solid." He and Gibbs are arguably the best running back tandem in the NFL right now. The upgrade from Jamall/Swift to Montgomery/Gibbs has been the engine that turned this team from good to Super Bowl contender.

          • I know this isn't recent and maybe I was out of the loop, but I didn't realize that there was a full 13min segment on this. I just watched and learned more about Bobby Layne than I had previously known

BTW, the Lions are something like 29-9 since this was made:

            • Here's a wild fact: Former Lions QB Joey Harrington has a son that is now a Lions fan!

              • I’m a rare Lions fan that really likes Joey Sunshine. Lions organization and Millen tanked any chance he had at developing into a decent pro. Total organization incompetence in that era. Similar to what is happening with Caleb Williams with Matt Eburflus and the Bears, but that was spread out over Joey’s 4 years in Detroit.

Montgomery is great and has been a key piece in shaping the identity of this Lions team. Toughness and grit.

Speaking of former Lions and Montgomery… Damn, the Saints totally whiffed on signing Jamaal Williams. 3.1 YPC, 430 rushing yards, and 2 TDs in 1 & 1/2 years with the Saints.

                • I think Joey could have been a solid pro had he been drafted somewhere else. But the fact that he never did anything after leaving Detroit makes me think maybe not.

Similar to what all Chicago Bears QBs have gone through since Mike Ditka, being with a trash organization can stunt a player's development.

Imagine what Tom Brady would have turned out if he was drafted by the Lions in 2000, and then have Matt Millen come into the organization the following season just like what actually happened. Brady would've never gotten to be in consideration as a GOAT in the NFL.

                      • The Lions drafted Williams in the fifth round in 2016. He appeared in 14 games for the franchise before he was waived ahead of the 2017 season.

                        • Jonah Jackson reportedly benched by the Rams. So is he going to take the Kenny Golladay career arc? I know Jackson was inconsistent of late with the Lions, but didn’t see a benching coming.

Meanwhile, Kevin Zeitler has been incredible as a replacement at RG. Sneaky.

Jackson was overpaid by the Rams, but it could be another case of a player getting the McVay blame treatment. Jackson has been shuffled around the line all season, playing both guard positions and center and generally playing next to backups as the line has battled injury.

Maybe we'll get him back for cheap like Glasgow :-)
