  • What will RB Stevan Ridley’s role be with the Colts?
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

      • Free agent defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill suspended four games

Posted by Darin Gantt on August 30, 2016, 11:18 AM EDT
APVeteran defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill doesn’t have a team at the moment.
If he finds one soon, he’ll miss a month of action.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Hill has been [ame="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/770637967690006528"]suspended four games[/ame] for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. The suspension is apparently for a missed test as opposed to a failed test.
Of course, since the league hasn’t announced the suspension, someone has again breached the confidentiality of the substance abuse program with the help of one of their employees.
Hill started at nose tackle for the Titans last year, but other than a visit with the Seahawks, there hasn’t been much reported interest in the 29-year-old, who spent his first four seasons with the Lions.

              • Report: Browns would only trade Josh McCown for a high draft pick

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 31, 2016, 3:08 PM EDT
APQuarterback-needy teams interested in Cleveland’s Josh McCown should probably look elsewhere.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Cowboys were interested in McCown until they found out how high the Browns’ asking price was, and the Vikings shouldn’t even bother to ask unless they’re willing to part with a high pick.
It seems extremely unlikely that anyone will offer a high pick for the 37-year-old McCown, who is under contract for two more years at $4.375 million this year and $3.625 million next year. McCown is a solid veteran backup, but teams typically want more than “solid backup” if they’re going to trade away a high draft pick.
So the Browns are likely to hold on to McCown as the backup to Robert Griffin III.

                • Rick Spielman: Shaun Hill can take us where we want to go

Posted by Josh Alper on September 1, 2016, 8:11 PM EDT
APThe Vikings don’t have quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in the lineup on Thursday night, but it isn’t for the reason they wanted Bridgewater on the sideline.
Bridgewater tore his ACL and dislocated his knee on Tuesday and was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, leaving the Vikings with Shaun Hill at the top of the depth chart at quarterback. The Vikings never looked for a backup to challenge or supplant Hill this offseason, which suggests they felt comfortable with the prospect of having him step in for an injured Bridgewater in 2016.
General Manager Rick Spielman said as much on Thursday.
“There’s no one in the organization who doesn’t think Shaun Hill can take us [ame="https://twitter.com/markcraignfl/status/771497004073574400"]where we want to go[/ame],” Spielman said, via Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Spielman said the team is looking at their options at quarterback, which presumably would include a trade or signing someone who shakes loose from another roster this weekend. Spielman correctly noted that “good quarterbacks [ame="http://twitter.com/markcraignfl/statuses/771498159021236224"]don’t fall out of trees[/ame]” and some of the best options would likely come at a premium cost, which may be more than the Vikings are willing to pay for a quarterback who may only be a band-aid in Minnesota.

                  • The Indianapolis Colts have released running back Stevan Ridley less than one week after signing him, Rapoport reported. The former Patriots and Jets running back, who has been hampered by an ACL injury, was cut by the Lions last week.

                              • 49ers list Jeremy Kerley as starter at wide receiver, punt returner

Posted by Michael David Smith on September 7, 2016, 10:28 AM EDT
Getty ImagesThe 49ers acquired Jeremy Kerley last week by trading a guard who wasn’t even going to make their team, Brandon Thomas, to the Lions. Thomas didn’t make the Lions’ roster either, but Kerley is a starter. At two positions.
The 49ers’ unofficial depth chart lists Kerley as a starter at both wide receiver and punt returner.
Kerley played his entire five-year career with the Jets before going to the Lions this offseason. Last year he was largely phased out of the offense, with a career-low 16 catches for 152 yards, although he remained the Jets’ primary punt returner.
The 49ers list Kerley as one of three starting receivers, along with Torrey Smith and Quinton Patton. The depth chart has Carlos Hyde as starting running back and Vance McDonald as starting tight end. There are no fullbacks in Chip Kelly’s offense.
