Re: Tracking former Lions
Mike Williams already released by CFL's Toronto Argonauts:

Mike Williams doesn’t last long in the CFL
A week after former Lions draft bust Mike Williams attempted to revive his career in the Canadian Football League, that attempt has come to an end.
The Toronto Argonauts have released Williams, the No. 10 overall pick of the 2005 NFL draft.
The 29-year-old Williams was once considered such a blue-chip prospect that former Lions President Matt Millen used a Top 10 pick on him even though Williams had been out of football for a full year after he tried and failed to enter the NFL draft following his sophomore season at USC (and even though Millen had used Top 10 picks on wide receivers in the two previous drafts). But Williams has never amounted to much as a professional.
Williams was a huge disappointment in two seasons with the Lions, catching just 37 passes and allowing his weight to get out of control. He was out of football for two years before his college coach, Pete Carroll, gave him another chance with the Seahawks in 2010, and he played reasonably well that year. But the Seahawks cut him in July of 2012, and he hasn’t been able to catch on anywhere since.

Couple former LBs in the news:
Barrett Green trying to get money from the NFL claiming he was hurt via the bounty scandal.
AND
Matt Russell will give the NFL some money due to his ramming cop cars under the influence. It will be interesting what the Broncos do with Mr. Russell, he already pissed of Elway when he said he would be interested in his alma maters Athletic Directors position at CU.

HAWKS HOPE AVRIL BRINGS HEAT TO OPPOSING PASSERS
The most glaring weakness for the Seattle Seahawks after they faltered to Atlanta in the final seconds of the NFC divisional playoffs was a lack of a consistent pass rush.

Pass rushing specialist Cliff Avril is expected to apply pressure to quarterbacks this season for the Seahawks after they picked him up from the Detroit Lions. (ELAINE THOMPSON/THE AP)
The most glaring weakness for the Seattle Seahawks after they faltered to Atlanta in the final seconds of the NFC divisional playoffs was a lack of a consistent pass rush.
But the Seahawks believe they?ve significantly bolstered that area by signing pass rushers Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett and Tony McDaniel in free agency, along with selecting defensive tackles Jordan Hill and Jesse Williams in this year?s draft.
With those players joining an already-talented group that includes defensive ends Chris Clemons and Bruce Irvin, along with defensive tackles Red Bryant, Brandon Mebane and Clinton McDonald, Seattle?s pass rush should be much improved in 2013.
However, with Seattle?s top two pass rushers either rehabbing from a serious injury (Clemons) or unavailable for the first four games because of a performance-enhancing drug suspension (Irvin), Avril will be counted on to carry the load as the team?s top pass rusher.
Whether or not Avril can flourish in that role remains to be seen. The former Detroit Lion was slowed by a nagging plantar fascia foot injury during offseason workouts, but should be healthy once training camp begins in two weeks.
And Seattle needs Avril to turn up the heat on opposing quarterbacks.
The Seahawks have one of the best defensive backfields in the league, finishing in the top 10 in passing yards allowed per game (203.1, No. 6), interceptions (18, tied for No. 8) and passing touchdowns allowed (15, tied for
second) last season. Yet, Seattle?s defensive line failed to take advantage of that blanket coverage, totaling just 36 sacks in 2012, tied for No. 18 in the league.
Avril?s posted 20.5 sacks over the past two seasons. And he gets after the football, with 16 career forced fumbles.
?He has a good scope of play,? coach Pete Carroll said after the acquisition of Avril. ?He can do a ton of things, but what he really does is comes off that edge roaring after you.?

Manny Ramirez is running as the Broncos' first-team center in the absence of Dan Koppen.
He's been promoted from Triple-A Round Rock. Lame jokes aside, it's not a positive development for Peyton Manning. Ramirez is a career backup, and was barely replacement level when forced into action at right guard last season. G/C C.J. Davis is the Broncos' other in-house possibility. The options on the open market are vanishingly thin. Former Manning teammate Jeff Saturday has already said he has no interest in un-retiring.
