  • What a stupid cut Ty Johnson was. Either of he or that Jason whatever his last name was RB would prob make the roster this season
WHO CARES why it says paper jam when there is no paper jam?

    • Randomly noticed Ty Johnson is the Jets starting RB while playing Madden the other day. Definitely surprised me at the time.
Sounds like the Jets don't have a clear cut starter for week 1. Ty Johnson, Tevin Coleman, Michael Carter, and La'Mical Perine will all have an opportunity until one stands out.

Jason Huntley. Apparently is 4th string RB for the Eagles. Expected to make their roster.

Teez Tabor not expected to make the cut, sadly. 😏

Eagles release Kerryon Johnson off injured reserve

Posted by Josh Alper on August 26, 2021, 5:38 PM EDT

Running back Kerryon Johnson won’t be playing for the Eagles this season, but he will have a chance to hook up with another team.

Field Yates of ESPN reports that Johnson has been released off of the Eagles’ injured reserve list. Johnson was waived with an injury designation when the Eagles trimmed their roster to 85 players last week.

Johnson dealt with a knee injury this summer.

The Eagles claimed Johnson off of waivers when the Lions cut the 2018 second-round pick. Injuries limited Johnson throughout his time in Detroit and he’ll have to steer clear of them to make an impact elsewhere in the league.

        • A’Shawn Robinson to undergo minor knee surgery

Rams defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, coach Sean McVay announced Thursday.

“A’Shawn, he’s going to have a little minor procedure on his knee so he’ll be out for the next few weeks,” McVay said, via Cameron DaSilva of USA Today.

The Rams open the season against the Bears on Sept. 12, so it’s unclear whether Robinson will return in time to play.

He is the projected starter, with Eric Banks and Earnest Brown IV listed behind him on the depth chart.

The Rams signed Robinson during the 2020 offseason, but he played only eight games after beginning the year on the non-football injury list. He played 111 defensive snaps and made 12 tackles and a quarterback hit last season.

          • Few others I’ve read about over the last couple of days:

            - Kenny Golladay is still out and has missed almost all of training camp with the Giants.
Not good so far for the big free agent signing.

            - Marvin Jones. Some people believe Jones will be the Jags #1 WR. Jones, if not Shenault.

              • Will Grier headlines list of 13 Panthers cuts

Posted by Josh Alper on August 31, 2021, 9:21 AM EDT

                Getty Images

The Panthers announced 13 cuts on Tuesday morning and settled their backup quarterback job in the process.

Will Grier was one of the players waived by Carolin and that leaves P.J. Walker as the only player behind Sam Darnold on the depth chart. Grier was a third-round pick in 2019 and made two starts as a rookie, but did not appear in any games last season.

The Panthers also waived wide receiver Omar Bayless, running back Spencer Brown, defensive lineman Frank Herron, offensive lineman Mike Horton, cornerback Jalen Julius, wide receiver Keith Kirkwood, linebacker Christian Miller, offensive lineman Aaron Monteiro, wide receiver C.J. Saunders, tight end Stephen Sullivan, and offensive lineman Sam Tecklenburg.

Linebacker Josh Bynes was released, which leaves the Panthers with 58 players on the roster. They’ll have to get down to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday and one of the moves they’ll make will involve moving cornerback A.J. Bouye to the suspended list.

                • Jets To Release QB Josh Johnson

August 31st, 2021 at 10:50am CST by Sam Robinson

Josh Johnson‘s second Jets stint has come to an end. The journeyman quarterback received word he did not make the team’s 53-man roster and will be released, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com tweets.

The Jets added Johnson during the first week of training camp but are going forward without a veteran backup. Mike White is in line to be Zach Wilson‘s primary backup, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter).

Neither White nor 2020 fourth-round pick James Morgan have attempted a regular-season pass, inserting some risk into the Jets’ quarterback situation. Gang Green drafted Wilson second overall, and the rookie’s grip on the QB1 gig was never in question. But the Jets will have no game experience behind the highly touted BYU product.

White has been with the Jets since 2019, heading to the Big Apple after a Cowboys cut. The Cowboys drafted White in the 2018 fifth round out of Western Kentucky. The 26-year-old passer will now be a Wilson injury away from action.

Johnson, 35, has famously been with nearly half the league’s teams. The 2008 fifth-round draft choice last played with Washington in 2018, and those three starts came five years after his previous game action. He will be back in free agency soon.

Eagles To Waive WR Travis Fulgham

August 31st, 2021 at 1:16pm CST by Sam Robinson

For an Eagles receiving corps decimated by injury last season, Travis Fulgham played a big role. But the team did not see enough this year to carry the young pass catcher onto its 53-man roster.

The Eagles are waiving Fulgham, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. While the former sixth-round pick could end up on Philadelphia’s practice squad, he will be an interesting name on the waiver wire. Fulgham is attached to an $850K base salary for this season. He will be a restricted free agent in 2022.

With Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson and Jalen Reagor down for a stretch last season, Fulgham stepped up. He caught a game-winning touchdown pass to help the depleted Eagles past the 49ers and ended his season with 38 receptions for 539 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to last season, however, Fulgham had never caught a pass as a pro.

Philly has since made some moves at receiver, most notably drafting DeVonta Smith in the first round. The team still has Reagor, its 2020 first-round pick, along with J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (Round 2, 2019) and 2020 sixth-round pick Quez Watkins.

Yup. But remember it was amidst a ton of injuries they had at the position. This year they drafted a guy high in the first and have 3-4 other guys coming back, including 2020 1st round pick Jalen Reager.

It would really not be a bad idea to pick him up via waivers and see what he has. It's not like the cost will be a lot or anyone they cut is gonna be great elsewhere.

                        • Panthers Release CB Rashaan Melvin

August 31st, 2021 at 12:40pm CST by Sam Robinson

Rashaan Melvin‘s path back to a regular-season game took a detour Tuesday. The Panthers made the veteran cornerback part of their final cuts as they move closer to a 53-man roster.

The Panthers signed Melvin in March, adding the well-traveled cover man shortly after the Jaguars cut him. Jacksonville’s new regime released Melvin after he opted out of the 2020 season, and Carolina represented a chance for the six-year vet to return to action.

Not counting the Jaguars or Panthers, Melvin has been with five teams — the Ravens, Patriots, Colts, Raiders and Lions — but has yet to be on the same team three years running. After playing well with the Colts in 2017, Melvin bounced off the Raiders and Lions’ rosters after one season.

Carolina added A.J. Bouye this offseason and has Donte Jackson returning for his fourth season. Otherwise, this is a young Panthers corner group. Bouye is also set to begin this season late due to a suspension.

                            WFT Cuts DT Gabe Wright

August 31st, 2021 at 11:36am CST by Zachary Links

The Washington Football Team will release defensive tackle Gabe Wright (Twitter link via John Keim of ESPN.com). If he clears waivers, Washington will look to sign him to their 16-man practice squad.

Wright has bounced around the NFL since being selected in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, spending time with six different teams. The last time he saw the field for an NFL game was 2018 when he got into a pair of contests with the Raiders. Since that time, he’s had a cameo in the XFL and a short stint with the Jaguars.

After joining Jacksonville’s practice squad in December, he was waived by the team back in March. In total, the 29-year-old has seen time in 15 games (one start), collecting 12 tackles and two tackles for loss.

                              Bears released CB Desmond Trufant.

Trufant was away from the Bears for a large chunk of training camp following the death of his father. Coach Matt Nagy apparently didn't see enough of him to be comfortable with the 30-year-old in his secondary. The longtime Falcon has been limited to 15 starts over the past two seasons, but that deep well of experience will undoubtedly earn him calls on the open market.

                                Texans released QB Jeff Driskel.

With the Texans already tied to keeping Deshaun Watson, Davis Mills, and Tyrod Taylor on their final roster, there was simply no room for Driskel to make the cut. Houston appears set on making Watson a gameday inactive, meaning Taylor will likely open the year as their starter. Mills will serve as his backup and could see some action as a rookie if Taylor struggles. Driskell has made nine career starts across three teams and will draw some interest as a practice squad arm.
