    • Love "Fox on the Run" by Sweet, great track as is "Fox on the run" by Manfred Mann

This was a favourite of mine as a teen, loved (and still do) driving to this:-

      and this makes me happy:-

and this is great from an underatted group and singer IMO

      • It has taken me over 3 hours to listen to all those songs. For many or most of them its going to take weeks to travel through the memories of the times when I heard them.

        Great thread, DanO

And I know many of you will call me a wimp for posting kenny loggins, but if you like the sax, hold on to your hats..In my opinion Mark Russo is one of the top saxophonists in the business.

Most everyone on here will probably think this is crazy... and how can anyone like this stuff.

This is my favorite band, As I Lay Dying. The abrasive vocal style tends to scare the majority of the older crowd away, hell, even most people. But if you can get past that and really dig into the lyrics, it really is fantastic stuff.

It's sad when some groups are shut down just because of stereotypes of the sound. "demonic" is a label that often coincides with this type of music. Although in reality it's quite the opposite.

I do understand that I grew up in a totally different era, and some people may never understand why bands would choose this abrasive vocal technique. That's fine with me as long as blind hate isn't a factor.

              • When I was in my late teens I listened to quite a bit of Slayer, Obituary, and Deicide. Mostly when I was driving around with my foot to the floor. I thought it made GREAT driving music, I carried the belief that the music made the car go faster.

None of which the vast majority on here have heard of.... well besides Metallica.
No need to apologize for not being required to take geriatric meds and forced to listen to easy listening music just yet. I'll be turning 44 this year and I routinely que up my Pantera, BioHazard, Sepultura, Maiden, Garage Door Days Metallica sets, Anthrax, Megadeath and then I can easily spin me some Reggae from ska to today's Dancehall and then back to some Iron Butterfly, Who, Led Zep and Black Sabbath. I love my Sirius satellite radio for the Thrash and Heavy Metal feast I can have at any given moment of the day. Makes not having to drag my CD's along worth the few bucks a month.

What I don't do very often is Motown as I was raised on that stuff and I have had my fill. I know most of it but avoid it until I am forced to listen to it at family gatherings. And believe me, there are a lot of family gatherings. Uggghh to the DJ on those days. ;)

I woke up thinking of some songs that this AARP type crowd would recall from days gone by.

I was guessing something simple, old and highly Mid-Westish would do the trick. These were about the hokiest two I could think of to fit the bill (and the apparent tastes of many here):

Jay & The Techniques - Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie

For those that like older generation music but not old person mentality music, this one is for you:

In A Gadda Da Vida - Iron Buttefly I

Haha.. yea i'm a huge Metallica fan, mostly of their 80's stuff. I was born in '90. I never really got into Maiden and Anthrax, and Megadeth that much mostly because i'm not a huge fan of the higher register vocal style. Don't get me wrong, those guys (especially Maiden) have had enormous impacts on metal music since their hayday.

Don't know if you're familiar with northern Michigan all that much... I live in the Traverse City area. And I saw the big four concert via satellite (Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth) @ the state theater here. It was a pretty sweet showing... although not too many people got into it cause it's hippyville up here (Michael Moore owns the state theater). Thrash isn't really their thing.

But I love it, and appreciate those great bands who helped form the metal scene into where it is today.
