When I think Klaus (sp?) I think of seeing him front row at Monsters of Rock in LA. I was too close to the tall stage so I was basically looking up his nostrels.
That must've been a really tall stage (Klaus is short dude IIRC).
The scorpions ball breaker for me was back in 84, love at first sting tour....., they were playing Glasgow Apollo,......, me and my mates got tickets, gig was in 3 months time......, in that 3 months, a family wedding was organised, an uncle I really don't like, I was 15 years old......, my mother said, "you are going to no concert, you are going to the wedding." Complete nightmare, all my buddies obviously said it was the best gig they'd ever been to. We'd been to Black Sabbath in Edinburgh just the week before which was great, but yes......, it was EVEN better than that!! Never ever got around to seeing the Scorps again.

Recollection is 8' to 10' tall.
This horrible video shows the stage (and mayhem of 100K metal heads)

OMFG!
Someone put up some Scorpions - Monsters of Rock - Los Angeles video
I was in a wave of people in that front row, back to three rows, up to front row, back to 5th row, up to front row. Klaus' sunglasses reflecting the sun is exactly what I tried to describe earlier.
Holy shit. That metallica crowd were feckin nuts. Was at donington rock festival in 86, both Anthrax and metallica were on the bill, ( two months before Cliff tragically died) ..... was pretty mental, but absolutely feck all like that Youtube clip right there. Were you at that Panoptes? And what about Francis Bucholtz' very dodgy 80's hairdo! Superb.
IIRC DanO, it was shit. Although I got a snog from a girl called Lyndsey. Turned out she was a 2nd cousin. Is that legal?

Are the LA crowds on a par with those Rock in Rio psychopaths?

The LA rock scene (like the 80's, early 90's) is dead. As you saw, we held our own back then. Also see (via Youtube) the US FESTIVAL feeds on the rock day as more proof of the So Cal head banging capabilities.
All we have now is some pre-pubescent schill singing about whipping her hair back and forth versus tens of thousands (sometimes 100K) young adults actually doing it to music that has nothing to do with candy pop.
Yes......, music for me has almost certainly died. It's just total pish these days. Thank God for the 70's and 80's and an extremely limited 90's.
Edit to add: Joe started the James Gang in the 60's, so thank God for those years too.
