...easing into Sunday with this. Haha. Slipknot definitely are masters of catharsis.
Did Van Halen suffer the same shit with their fans a lot of bands suffer when a new vocalist joins? The DLR faithful hating SH etc? I've never been a big VH fan, but interested to know how some took to the change all those years ago.
"...when Hibernian won the Scottish Cup final and that celebration, Sunshine on Leith? I don’t think there’s a better football celebration ever in the game.”
I think they kept a lot of fans but I think a lot of people always wanted them to get back with Diamond Dave. When they finally did, I think they'd already missed their window.
I'd still go see them (saw Van Hagar twice) but from the clips I've seen on Youtube, Dave isn't sounding that great anymore. I saw DLR at Crisler Arena in '86, I think. I thought he was pretty good but a friend of mine who had better seats told me that Dave's bassist Billy Sheehan sang through the whole show to make up for Dave being wasted and missing some vocals.
I actually saw Sammy in 2008 (got free tickets to a Hagar/Scorpions double bill in Costa Mesa) and he still sounds pretty good. Michael Anthony also came out to join him and they played some Van Hagar songs.
Oh, wow. This is actually from the show I went to. The audio isn't that great but I thought I'd post it anyway. Billy Duffy from The Cult is on guitar. So much better in person:
I was kind of let down by the Scorpions. Pre-show, I thought they'd be the ones that were more fun to watch but it seemed to me that they were stuck in the time warp, even with them playing new songs. I did like the was Klaus pronounced Costa Mesa, though.
p.s.- That whole show was Metal Maiden Cougar Town, was it not?
When I think Klaus (sp?) I think of seeing him front row at Monsters of Rock in LA. I was too close to the tall stage so I was basically looking up his nostrels. Remember the sun reflecting strongly off his sunglasses while looking at us getting mashed up front.
