    • Can I ask........, is EVERYBODY on this forum a Beatles fan? Or a Wings and McShitney fan? Am I alone in my dislike of this bollocks? Can't believe that. If my memory serves me correct, I think maybe Dean isn't a fan. I may be wrong.

      • Marko, I am a Beatles fan but not so much a Paul fan. The creative soul of the Beatles was John and George. Paul had his moments and it's hard to knock his talent for turning out pop but as he got further away from the Beatles his work became sickeningly syrup sweet to me.

Two of the other groups I love also lost their creative centers and lost focus.

Pink Floyd with Roger Waters was brilliant. Without Roger the band could still play good music but it wasn't as keenly honed to expose the thin membrane between "reality" and lunacy/fantasy, fear/ecstasy, and surrealism that invades our daily lives.

Genesis was another that lost focus when Peter Gabriel left. They followed their trajectory for a while but slid further and further towards the weak end of the pop scale.

        • Fast post on the Beatles - Well, over 40, everyone is a fan but you Marko - lol - Paul or John? John was the most loved then - hated near the end with the Yoko thing, until -well then he got killed - so he went from the bottom to the top. Paul took over the last 3 LPs (basically) the others wanted to go on their own. George was really great, but never got any credit... Paul is now really old and we all know nobody likes old people. Kids theses days don't like them much, not their fault - Different times, garbage they like now I don't even call it music.

              • Gabriel Genesis is just the dogs balls for me. It doesn't get any better than that. "Selling England by the pound" is my favourite album of ALL time. I regularly blast "The Cinema Show" in the van whilst driving, pretending Im Tony Banks on the steering wheel. Peter Gabriel solo is also absolutely fantastic.

It's weird you say this Wingsfan, because I genuinely don't know very many Beatles fans. Most of the people I know, or worked with and many family members are of similar thinking to me..... They're shit. Maybe it's a Liverpool and USA thing. This forum definitely has the most Beatles fans I've ever encountered in the one room.

I actually think the first words of "Love me do" are .......
"Love, Love me do...... You know.... AW FFS, turn that shit off!"
That's what I usually hear on the jobsite !

Correct!, probably a lot has to do with "Yellow Submarine" played by Ed Stewpot Stewart on the radio every friggin weekend when I was a kid. God I hate that song.

Honestly youtube has really rekindled me listening to the Fab 4 - I know I have went years without listening to them in the past.

Anyway, you got me thinking know how to gauge how popular they really are?? The only thing I can think of is likes on Facebook. Maybe Tony can find something?

                        The Beatles - 36,625,287 Likes

                        Rolling Stones -15,396,541

                          • New PJ. Kind of more mainstream, "adult" rock but I think it sounds pretty good.

                              • Because Americans and Liverpudlians love the Beatles. I'll guess that most of the people you know are American?

The only person I know who is mad for the Beatles is one of my uncles. But he was starved of oxygen at birth, and he is quite literally, mad. So he doesn't count.

What I don't get is the Beatles being every musicians inspiration. It seems they have inspired every musician to be better than them. By a feckin country mile.
