So this is kind of part favorite musician, part favorite song, and part insperational story.
First let me introduce you to Billy McLaughlin. Easily one of my favorite musicians. He's a virtouso acoustic guitar player who combines an unbelievable technique, exotic tunings, and beautiful melodies to compose amazing songs.
Here's an example circa 1997. Please ignore the corny intro. The song is great ...

Fast forward 12 years. Here's Billy performing "Helms Place" - one of his signature tunes - at what looks like a guitar store. Notice anything different?

Did you catch the difference? He's now playing left handed!! And there's a good reason why. Explained here ...

Freakin unbelievable. Now since this thread is about favorite songs, I'll finish up with my favorite Billy McLaughlin song: "Breaking of the Shells". Unfortunately I couldn't find a video of Billy performing it, but this version is nearly flawless. Plus the guy is playing a Larrivee, which happens to be the guitar I own.

Feel like I'm monopolizing this thread lately. Sorry. I'm pretty passionate about the music I like - which isn't a lot. Here's a couple from Tori Amos.
When I listen to this next song I always remember the time I went to see Tori in the mid-90's. Yes I was an IT dweeb then too but a much younger IT dweeb dabling in music semi-seriously. I went with another IT dweeb semi-serious musician friend (and keyboard player).
I've never felt more out of place at a concert. The audience was 90 percent girls but most were playing for the other team - if you catch my drift. Anyways, she starts playing this next song (which is one of my favs) but when she sings this line ...
"so you can make me cum, that doesn't make you jesus"
the entire crowd sings it with her and goes bananas with pure man-hate. I just slunk as low in my chair as I could get.

This next song - "Cruel" is my current favorite from Tori. The studio version has an awesome bass sound that isn't quite replicated here, but this live version is amazing in its own way. Simply put, this is the performance of an incredible artist at her peak.
