Frusciante was the man during Bloodsugarsexmagik and Californication, but I felt he actually held the band back during By The Way and the double album. His obsessive wants pretty much laid the ground work for that vanilla power pop that pushed me away as a fan. The Californication era show I saw still ranks as one of my favorites. So they still always bring it live.

I like the power pop stuff, not enough bands do that anymore. I'm not sure he was holding the band back, they need the guitarist to set the direction musically. If the guitarist isn't a prolific writer, they just surf and do drugs and nothing gets accomplished(I'm looking at you Navarro). So I like By The Way a lot.. I will agree that by Stadium Arcadium it got a little stale, but I still like it, it just wasn't much more ground breaking

I was in the crowd the night this Amnesty Intl "Conspiracy of Hope" concert went down at the Forum in L.A.
The entire event was amazing (too many greats to remember until I refreshed with the story below):
But two songs still stick out from that day:

and
Give Blood (Pete Townshend) played that evening (IIRC) by David Gilmour, Peter Gabriel and others.
It was surreal how the crowd seemed to be in a trance.Last edited by Panoptes; August 30, 2012, 04:23 AM.19.1119, NO LONGER WAITING

Well, I think Morello has a little more funk in his playing than Navarro so I'd be interested to see what he could do.
Also, even though Navarro was a bit of a mismatch, I did like a couple of tunes off of One Hot Minute. It also might have been a different record had Anthony not fallen off the wagon.

Ah, that's better. I decided to check if Flea and Tom Morello had played together before and they have.
