You're welcome bimmer. Just a couple more tonight.

Please don't panic. This is Nickel CREEK. Not Nickelback. Very, very different.

Simply put, I don't know if its possible to record acoustic string instruments any cleaner than this. In my system, the opening guitar is playing in my room ... I can hear every nuance of the pick against the string. And the guitar has a beautiful bloom on the notes - sounds just like a vintage Martin.

Although this group of songs is not about the lyrics, pay attention to these. They are quite clever in my opinion. Nicely ironic, and cynical ... just like a good break up song should be.

        • This one is tough.

I'm one of the few people who actually bought Super Audio CDs (SACD). One advantage SACD has is that it can be multi-channel, meaning it can take full advantage of your Home Theater surround speakers and center speaker. Unfortunately, music producers didn't really know how to use this to good artistic effect. I've heard a lot of multi-channel recording that make it sound like you are in the middle of the band - which is just lame IMO.

The best examples that I've found do one of two things. Either ...

          1) The surround speakers are used subtlely to add room and depth ques and possibly crowd noise in a live recordings. ORRR

          2) The producer throws out all convention and goes absolutely ape shit with the surround channels.

Below is an example of #2. As a straightforward stereo song (as delivered by YouTube), this ain't that special honestly. But the SACD surround sound version of this song is awesome beyond words.

In fact, the whole album is groundbreaking in multi-channel (surround) mode. If you've got a SACD player in a home theater setup ... I highly recommed the whole CD ... SACD that is.

                      • This song somehow over the years is unusual in that Roger Daltrey's lyric 'who the fuck are you?' is played on the radio.
