Most everyone on here will probably think this is crazy... and how can anyone like this stuff.
This is my favorite band, As I Lay Dying. The abrasive vocal style tends to scare the majority of the older crowd away, hell, even most people. But if you can get past that and really dig into the lyrics, it really is fantastic stuff.
It's sad when some groups are shut down just because of stereotypes of the sound. "demonic" is a label that often coincides with this type of music. Although in reality it's quite the opposite.
I do understand that I grew up in a totally different era, and some people may never understand why bands would choose this abrasive vocal technique. That's fine with me as long as blind hate isn't a factor.
Since you were so nice I took the time to listen (twice). I didn't hate it. But maybe it's a generational thing because the abrasive vocal technique just wasn't at all pleasing to my ears. The rest was pretty good.
"And I'm a million different people from one day to the next..."
I fell in love with this song when I saw it on ESPN the morning after the Wings won the cup in 98 during a montoge video of thier run through the playoffs.
Now I have to do a whole Queen tribute, I love love love Queen.

A few things that struck me when I was thinking about Queen today, Brian May is an amazing and such an underrated guitarist. Also a ton of bands from this era seemed to have a formula on how to make an amazing rock band, flamboyant front man and amazing guitar player. Mercury & May, Plant & Page, Jagger & Richards Osbourne & Iommi and even Tyler & Perry, I'm sure there are more I'm just not thinking of but those were right off the top of my head.
How the hell anyone can listen to that is beyond me. I just don't see it.
"Gee lets put on some Parallels and go out and relax by the pool"
I don't think so...
-_-.... kill your mama music?? absolutely not.... people have different purposes for listening to music. Some use it as a backdrop and just tune out and relax... others tend to get more involved in it. Use it as a tool to do some soul searching or get something of substance out of the lyrics. You seem to be the type who uses music as a backdrop from that comment.
I personally like the power generated by these particular vocals. I understand all the words of the song. It speaks to me. This is why I have such love for it.
Now, I do understand it's all about preference. Although, It really shouldn't be beyond you though to understand why other people enjoy this... you're just not digging deep enough to see it. You label it "Kill your mama" music, when that statement is just flat out false. i'll post the lyrics and maybe then you can see why others enjoy it.
Parallels lyrics:
We are all comatose. We are overfed and under... undernourished, yearning for something more.
Never starving yet never quite satisfied. Carnal but without useful flesh or mind. Yeah...
I am a walking contradiction that's found consistency
Consuming everything, all without producing sustenance.
In the parallels we struggle... struggle to upkeep, there is a better way for us to be set free.
From all it is we crave, there must be more to life than to simply stay alive... to simply stay alive.
We are not the same as I hope to show. There is a better way if we just let go.
We are not... we are not the same. We are not... we are not the same. Let go...
In the tension between devouring want or simple need
It's clear the only lines between the ones we preserve.
We are not the same as I hope to show. There is a better way if we just let go.
We are not... we are not the same. We are not... we are not the same.
Let go... We are not the same.
And in the parallels we struggle to upkeep,
There's a better way for us to be... for us to be set free.
And in the parallels (parallels) we struggle to upkeep (struggle to upkeep),
There's a better way for us to be... for us to be set free
--- there are the lyrics... now to link that to killing your mama is just being ignorant.
I totally understand how you may not like the abrasiveness, but it's just a particular form of expression. Some like it, some don't.
BTW, I'm just giving you some shit. If it speaks to you, it speaks to you.
An abrasive unpleasent sounding "what is the purpose of life/teen angst" song doesn't have much appeal to me.
It's a modern version of Itchycoo park....;)
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

haha... well I definitely don't see "what is the purpose of life/teen angst" in this song @ all... I think they are good lyrics personally. Alot better than the mainstream superficial/talentless stuff floating around out there.
Like I said... I knew the majority of the people would not like it on here. And that's fine. Just adding my personal taste.
