he thinks lawn fertilizer, though I'm not so sure - I could see that if it was the meaty tissue in his mouth, but the bone...........

    • My last golden had a large tumor removed off his jaw. It metastasized a year and a half later. The vet had suggested removing half his lower jaw but I couldn't see that as a good quality of life.

      • Ugh. :( What do you think caused it?

I drive myself nuts wondering about the cause of Sonny's cancer.

        • Just a strong genetic predisposition. Backyard breeders really weakened the breed in the 70's and 80's

              • Unfortunately, I wasn't the one who talked to the vet, and the wife didn't ask about efficacy rates. It's expensive and complicated; we're going to pretty much have to keep the little bugger confined for the next four months, no running and playing.

                    • No, we've got a cage for a larger dog--he's a Chihuahua--and he'll just have to stay in there all the time. He's not exhibiting any symptoms at all, so I would guess his chance of survival is pretty good. We've also been giving him Interceptor all along, so the vet said they'd call the company and see if they'll pay part of the cost. They sure ought to, because that stuff is expensive, too, and it didn't work as advertised.

                          • That is a real bummer Dodger. I hope there is remedy from the company that made the heartworm pills.

                              • Deb, that was very gracious of you to adopt an older dog like that. I know the two of you will be very happy.

Sorry to hear that Dodge, hope the treatment goes well.
