  • Frank. Completely agree on both Fracture and Mr. Brooks. But Demi almost ruined Mr. Brooks for me...

About a month ago I watched Fracture. My favorite roles that Anthony Hopkins plays are ones similar to his Hannibal Lecter, where he's both intelligent and charming, with a psycopathic underside. He really knows how to mindfuck people better than any other actor out there.

I agree with ya'll, Frank and SLF. Mr. Brooks was so entertaining but could have been so much more with actual talent in the Demi Moore role. She was wretched. Definitely the interplay (to use Franklin's word) between Costner and Hurt was the best part. For years, I have said I can't stand William Hurt but he keeps turning in really good performances. I think I might need to let go of the hate.

I liked Fracture but was slightly disappointed. I guess with Hopkins and Gosling my expectations were sky high.

Agree. My expectations were high on this one too so I was a bit disappointed but it was a decent flick.

Darn. I'll still watch it when it comes out on DVD though.

      • Just watched Reign Over Me. Been a long time since I actually both laughed and cried at a movie. The music in this movie was great, this is a soundtrack I'll have to pick up. Some of Adam Sandler's best work that I've ever seen him do is when he's not playing the total buffoon. I don't know why I should be so surprised though, comics tend to have great range, I've seen it in Robin Williams and others. I do think that the middle part of the movie was a bit drawn out, and that the ending was tied up too quickly, but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I was either picking this or Disturbia, it came down to a flip of the coin, and the coin picked this.

        • Good review Franklin. Again, I feel the same way about the movie as you. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Disturbia is pretty good too. I was entertained.

Speaking of Don Cheadle, I finally caught Talk to Me which was also very enjoyable. Coming up on Thanksgiving day with the Fam, Evan Almighty!

          • Seen plenty of movies lately. American Gangster was pretty good. Fred Claus was alright although I think it could have been so much better. They really dropped the ball on that one. They had a great concept and a great cast and just got lazy with the writing...

              • I Am Legend looks really good. I wanted to go see American Gangster the other night but after working 11 hours, I didn't want to be at the movie til almost midnight, which is why I chose Reign Over Me.

Saw it last night Frank. Great movie. I too was hoping so see him get all the way back before they ended it, but still, you knew it was headed in a good direction. I saw Amazing Grace recently. I thought that one was the best I have scene in a long time.

                        • I can't wait for I Am Legend. I've been waiting for that movie since I heard Arnold Schwarzenegger was tied to it in the early to mid 90's.

I thought The Omega Man with Charleton Heston was good and it was based on the same book.

                            • Bim, I saw Amazing Grace. Very good flick. And intereting from a historical perspective. I have a hard time understanding how humans can treat other humans so savagely.

                              • Glad you liked it Rom. The conditions on those boats were abysmal. I don't think they thought of them as humans, but more in the category of cargo. The object was to sell a commodity. It was just how the world was accepted to be.
